About this project
Hello Friends, Family, Colleagues, Teachers, Mentors, Spies, and Unicorns:
We are Bethany Nelson and Lily Sloan, M.F.A in Dance students at Texas Woman’s University, and we are making an awesome site-specific, multimedia performance in a bar, called Complex Environments: This is not a bar. We want YOU to be a part of it!
It takes place at Banter ( http://www.dentonbanter.com ), in downtown Denton, TX on December 4 & 5 at 8 p.m.
The evening length performance includes dance theater and video installation by Nelson and Sloan, with original music by John Osburn. Through super secret surveillance missions, we investigate the identity and culture of Banter and specific individuals that inhabit it (A.K.A. spy on people). With this source material, we are constructing an alternate reality to be performed inside Banter.
So, how can YOU be involved? Well, a central aspect to our creative process is the investigation of the people that inhabit Banter, by noting what actions they do and what they things they say. The crux of it is: PEOPLE ARE REALLY ESSENTIAL TO THIS WORK. By becoming a backer, YOU can have the opportunity to provide material for us.
We also want this performance to be a really fun social evening, and we want to make you feel welcome and comfortable. That’s why, as backers you can receive some pretty nice shwag, like coffee, locally made treats, a fun DVD of the performance, and the quintessential VIP SEATS!! (We’ll even give you a badge)
Even for those who are not local and can’t make the performance, you can still contribute material and follow the process along on our blog ( http://www.makedancehere.blogspot.com ). At the right Backer level, you can also receive a swell little DVD of the performance with some fun rehearsal bloopers and your name listed as a Backer in our program.

Connected as Lily Sloan (765 friends)
The idea behind Big Rig Dance Collective sprung up while we were road trippin' from Denton to a performance in Austin, TX. Like highways connect cities, we aim to connect diverse communities through accessible performances, community classes, and collaborative events. BRDC is directed by Whitney Boomer, Crysta Caulkins-Clouse, Amanda Jackson, and Lily Sloan and creatively developed with many DFW area dance artists. We have recently completed guest artist residencies at Tarrant County Community College, North Central Texas College, Richland College, Green Space Arts Collective, and Ryan High School. We have collaborated with artists such as Sarah Gamblin (Dance), John Osburn (Music), Impulse (Music), and Hentai Performing Orchestra (Music), and performed in concerts and festivals such as Big Range Dance Festival (Houston and Austin), Dance and the Child International, and DFW Arts Goggle.
