About this project
The festival is only a few months away, so due to this compressed time frame typical funding channels (grants etc) aren't available. We have to raise about $5500 to get us there. We need the money for 5 plane tickets, approximately 25-30 hours of rehearsal space, a few props/costumes that need replacing, shipping costs for set, and a very small stipend to the incredible cast Atosa Babaoff, Rachael Dichter, Mica Sigourney, and Liz Tenuto. I'm hoping you'll consider donating to our kickstarter campaign, no donation is too small.
Laura Arrington Dance is a San Francisco based experimental performance group founded by Laura Arrington in 2008. LAD has created seven original works including Wag, The Virgin Sea, Thirty Minutes of Wonderful, Fingerbird, Mostly David, Hot Wings, and Pucker. The work explores and challenges notions of the performing body; pushing it’s physical, emotional, and psychic states of being. Often honing in on how the body relates to gender and sexuality, the work tends to be subversively political and accidently hilarious. My interest resides in the space between representation and experience; riding the line between authenticity and the artificial. The work has been presented at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Z Space, The Lab, Headlands Center for the Arts, CounterPULSE, ODC, The Garage, Cell Spaces, Mama Calizo’s Voice Factory, Supperclub, and several friend’s home. LAD has been an artist in residnce at Headlands Center for the arts, ODC's Sandbox Series, CounterPULSE ARC and the Garage. The work is supported through Theatre Bay Area's CA$H Grant, Zellerbach Family Fund, and Dancer's Group New Stages Grant.
Laura/Larry grew up in Louisiana. She has been making performance in the Bay since 2008. Most recently she was an artist in residence at CounterPULSE, creating the work Hot Wings under the mentorship of Joe Goode. She has worked as a guest artist in The University of San Francisco’s Dance and Social Justice Department, as the resident choreographer for Cutting Ball Theater, as an assistant director for Erika Chong Shuch’s Love Everywhere, and as a performer for AXIS Dance/David Dorfman, Jess Curtis, Keith Hennessy, Christopher Williams, Nina Winthrop, and Ellis Wood. She has a BFA from the University of North Carolina Greensboro where she studied Dance, Art, and Gender Studies.
