A study abroad opportunity to personally experience the historical artistic history and culture of Japan.

Japanese Art

Japanese art is extremely unique because of the country's independent development. The art of Japan was originally used to document historical events and now is a major expression of creativity and talent. From the original to the modern creations, which chronicles fictional stories, Japanese art has influenced the world at large, spreading from the shores of Japan to that of the United States of America.

About Me and My Project 

 I am a Graphic Design and Art History major attending McDaniel College. Since a very young age I have always loved Japanese art, even as a kid I was influenced by Manga and anime. Japanese culture is what inspired me to become a artist. It has had a huge impact in my life and my art. I am currently working on a research paper about the history and origins of manga and how it evolved to Anime today.

Fortunately McDaniel College has presented me with the opportunity to visit Japan and learn with a professor who has studied Japanese Art and its history  for over 20 years. The trip consist of 11 days, in which I will visit many art museums and temples in Osaka, Hiroshima,Kyoto, Hakone and Tokyo. Being able to go on this trip would mean the world to me because it is a fundamental part of my Undergraduate education and a step towards my goals as an art.

Why Study Japanese Art

If given this opportunity I would return from Japan bringing  a new perspective of the artistry in which I plan to share with my future Art History students, as I plan to pursue a  graduate degree in Art History with a focus in Japanese Art. Thank you for your consideration.
