Six friends hunker down in the woods of West Virginia to confront the potential end of days. A film project directed by Marcus Ricci.

According to the Mayan Calendar, the end of the world is nigh, and December 21, 2012, could be the end of civilization as we know it.  The intrigue surrounding the supposed 2012 Apocalypse is palpable — is something truly going to go down, or will we instead be faced with the next disappointing iteration of the Y2K phenomenon—a whole lot of hoopla for nothing? Regardless of where you stand on the matter, it’s nevertheless worth pondering the idea that this year could be your last on Earth.  And if the Apocalypse is truly upon us, does that make this year all the more important?

This is the basis for The 2012 Project.  Over the course of the year, six friends and creative artists will record video diaries of themselves assessing their lives on the precipice of what could be the end of days.  They will candidly discuss their thoughts on the Apocalypse and whether they feel there is any validity to these claims, as well as the state of their individual lives during this unusual period.  If you know the world is going to end, would you do anything differently?  What unfinished business would you attend to if it could, in fact, be your last chance to do so?  Then, from December 18-22, our six characters will retreat to a remote cabin in the hills of West Virginia to ride out the storm, and whatever consequences it may bring.

The 2012 Project is unscripted and will be largely improvised, but actors will be given a frame of reference to provide context while shooting in the woods. Actors are not playing characters; rather, they will portray versions of themselves in a reality where the apocalypse is a real, imminent possibility. The goal of this film is to create a heightened reality through which we can explore the greater truths of a group of young adults staring collectively into a cold, uncertain future.

Our fundraising goal for this project is $8,000, which will be used used for production and post-production expenses. Please help us make it happen!
