We are going to bring in sunshine by way of scoops of yummy, scratch made ice cream & we need YOU!!
There is nothing I have ever loved to do more than work in a kitchen, creating food for others to enjoy. After years of working for other people, and learning so very much, I have decided to venture out on my own.
Social is born of the ideal that good food doesn't have to be too complicated
or cost a fortune to be great! Starting May of 2012, Social will be at the Lake Forest Park Farmers Market every Sunday. Our business will also be available for parties, events, office parties and more! My hope is to grow and build a brand, to one day (soon!!) have an ice cream shop for folks to come, hang out, and eat some *real* scratch made ice cream and treats.
Did I mention our bases will be egg-free? Yup! Of course, there will be occasional inclusions with eggs, but each handcrafted ice cream base will be "Philadelphia-style", meaning there are no eggs to mask the flavors of what is in the ice cream!
I have been testing recipes and handing them out to friends and I have been buying what I need here and there when money allowed, but Social just needs a final push to get going. There is a place to do it, a person to do it, now all that is left is a final push to get the company over that final hump of bureaucracy and red tape involved in the official side of things. I have set a goal of $2500, but more would just help out so much! (And since writing this, there has been a *massive* equipment hiccup...this money is more important now than even before...)
While Social does just consist of that girl there in the video, I have an AMAZING support system here in Seattle that has helped me get this going. Everyone from the owner of the shared kitchen the company is based out of, to the graphic designer who took on my small fry business, and everyone in between...I feel super blessed and thankful that so many people believe in this project. The best way I know how to thank them is to make this dream become a reality!!

Well, the answer is two-fold. For starters, I love eggs!! So, that isn't the deal. The deal is that I feel like egg free bases allow the ingredients to shine through and be the feature of the ice cream. Sure, there is a different mouthfeel and consistency, but that is the beauty of food! It does not have to be what you are used to to be amazing!
The second reason is simply to be a little different. I have worked with and around two companies here in Seattle that make awesome egg based custards and I am aware that there are other ice cream shops that either outsource their production or use a mix. I just wanted to set myself apart from everyone else(story of my life!!) and do something in a way no other ice cream company here is doing it! Plus, I love food science.

Well, dairy is a fickle little mistress without her lil' buddy, egg. She throws tantrums and does the opposite of what you want her to do. Through research, reading, and experimentation, I have corralled some information and used it to create a base that is rich and creamy, but without eggs!

Nothing freaky to see here, folks. My base consists of dairy (a combo of milk and cream), sweetener (anything from cane sugar to molasses, depending on the complementary flavors), occasionally a little starchy business to thicken it up, and wee bit of salt. Depending on what flavor I am making, there could be some savory basil or some sweet gluten free brownies, but that is it! I alter the ratios depending on what I am creating, but you'll never find weird stuff in my ice cream.

Seattle needs me. Everyone knows Seattle has a sect of normal people who play out their nightlife as a super hero. (If not, look it up! Seriously!) I'd like to think I am rescuing the people of Seattle from the oppressors of the chain ice cream shop. Some are villains in disguise, luring you in and feeding you industrial ice cream. I just cannot watch it happen anymore!! (This is not to say there isn't amazing independent ice cream here...there is!! You just need to seek them out at your local farmers market!! Go!! Do it!)
Also, read my bio. I live in beautiful Lake Forest Park with the love of my life, a sweet dog and a mouthy cat. I couldn't really ask for more! Except maybe, a happy little ice cream business to call my own!
