One long continuous timelapse shot following the night and day sky over the span of an entire day, 24 hours in the woods of Oregon.

CONCEPT: This is a new technology, experimental film that consists of digital timelapse imagery set in the forests of the Pacific Northwest. The concept is to make one continuous timelapse shot following the night and day sky over the span of an entire day, 24 hours. The film is called “Warm Earth, Which I’ve Been Told” and is built around music by Six Organs of Admittance, who have generously given me their full support and music rights for this film. The entire film will be shot on a digital camera with a 180º circular fisheye lens (brand new Canon lens technology), allowing the entire horizon and sky to be visible in frame.

The fisheye will contain the images in a circle, representing the shape of the earth, a repeating theme throughout the film. Likewise the distortion of a fisheye lens will add an interesting abstractness to the images making an entirely unique and compelling work of art.

STORY: It begins at noon looking straight up at the sun and sky. Trees stretch from the outside of the circle toward the center where they part, displaying the entire sky. Voices chant “where will I rest” as the sun continues to set and clouds flow by. At the 4:50 mark, the sun sets behind the horizon. Then the music shifts to a tranquil/cosmic section. Here the camera will display the entire rotating night sky and Milky Way galaxy, silhouetted by lunging trees. At 12:50 in the film, the music begins to shift again into an ominous chant as the sun starts to rise. The camera follows the sun up above at noon under the trees at the same place where the film began (representing the looping/spherical pattern of life).

FUNDING: To help pay for and recoup the costs for making the film and the equipment required. Those costs include the camera, lens, battery and data storage for shooting 24 hours straight in a remote location. For $5,000 I will able to produce, film, edit, and complete this unique HD film that will be shown throughout the world.

PUBLIC SCREENINGS:

FESTIVALS: I have had my films shown in over 30 international film festivals and plan to use those connections to screen this film in many festivals around the world.

PLANETARIUMS: I am already in discussion with screening this in many planetariums and welcome the opportunity to inspire and educate audiences with this unique glimpse of a day passing.

ONLINE: I will offer a full HD version of the film available free online with vimeo.
