The Neversink Valley Museum of History and Innovation (formerly Neversink Valley Area Museum) has, for more than 40 years, educated thousands of school children and adults each year through exhibitions, lectures, film screenings and special programs. We teach about the Lenape native peoples, the D&H Canal, and early film making, with a focus on the changing technologies through the centuries. We have collaborated with museums in Germany and Virginia and Teacher's College of Columbia University in NYC. -- for a small local museum, we have an international reach! The museum wants to build a cultural and community center, in our rural community in New York State on the PA and NJ border. We've truly outgrown our current home and need more appropriate space to continue to have an impact on the communities we serve in three states. This building will house a theater, community room, exhibit galleries, research library and film viewing rooms, as well as temperature and humidity-controlled artifact storage and administrative areas. We are in discussions with several performing arts organizations to make our theatre their home, thus giving this region its first, and much needed cultural center.

Designed by noted architect Hector V. Munoz-Baras,AIA, LEEDap, the building will utilize the most current green technologies including solar panels, green roof and insulated concrete. Clad in local bluestone and wood, it is truly a beautiful and functional design, inspired by the trains that brought coal to the D & H Canal in the 1800's and the canal that brought the coal from Honesdale, Pennsylvania to the Hudson River in New York to fuel the growing New York City.

I'm looking for seed money to kickstart a capital campaign for this new building: we must pay for an architect's model, rendering, engineering drawings, promotional video, flash drives, postage and all the other incidentals we'll need to raise money for the building. Can't go to our "big guns" for this, because I'll need to go to them for actual construction costs!! Help the museum get to phase 2. We've completed phase 1, which was to buy the 15+ acres where we will actually put the building!
