So I guess we can say this was a failure for many of the backers? I mean the post card has such a random photo, that the only way you actually know it was sent from the state is the post mark, but in my case the postmark was beyond smeared and blurred

"Once we have sent out all of the postcards and everyone has received them, we plan on producing a comprehensive guide with more information about each card. "

Now, nearly November, WHERE is this comprehensive guide?

Did anyone get a postcard from the Southern states? Did you guys go to the Southern states? You don't have an X on any of those states.

So much money was funded and so many people are unhappy. Sadly I think you may have dropped the ball with all of that money.

I've been keeping up with the website, and the pictures up there are awesome! But the pictures on the postcards are kind of disappointing. How do you select which pictures go on the postcards? One of the ones I got was clearly taken through the window of a moving car, and you had so many better ones from that state!

    5. Dscn3449.small

Creator Nick on October 6, 2012

Well I just got my postcard and it is worthless. You wrote nothing on it at all and I have no idea where the picture is from. What a waste of a useless project.

Hey guys! I was wondering if you could tell us which printer you're using to print these on the road. The quality seems quite good (even if USPS machines damage them more often than not). Thanks!

So it appears that pictures tend to be random items from each state? I got a picture with some hats, I wouldn't even known that the picture was taken in Washington state.

Oh well 2$ for a random picture of hats is not so bad.

    11. Missing_small

Creator The Unknown on September 15, 2012

I have received 42 as well so it seems likely that is the number sent so far.

I too have enjoyed getting the random pictures. To me the randomness is a big part of the fun. When you take a long trip you never know what people, places, or things will you will remember most. That is what this is like.

The project has been what I had hoped for and have enjoyed the mail all summer. I have only received 42 of 50. Are you guys done?

    13. Img_1885.small

Creator Str on August 25, 2012

I'm disappointed in what I received and am very glad now that I wasn't more enthusiastic up front regarding my pledge. Of all the beautiful things to photograph in Utah, I got a photo of a fence and some construction. The quality of the picture is very poor, you might as well have printed it in black and white the colors are so weak. This was a helpful lesson in being cautious with things of this sort.

I agree with you, Manny. I really gained no insight into what each state may be like. Sometimes pictures from a state were only of diners and eroded and worn parking lots. I would think the goal of a project like this would be to get an understanding of and take home a little piece of each state, maybe a little of each culture within each state. The photos produced in this project are merely a projection of how these artists view the world. It definitely wasn't a project done with open eyes, and open minds. The saw what filled their preconceived notion of the world.

Secondly, the photographers should not have left an area for "requests" if they weren't even going to TRY to honor them. I understand, you have a lot of postcards to mail. But my request was simple "A photo with trees." What I got was a photo of an old diner wall menu.

    15. Img_2576.small

Creator MannyLaMancha on August 17, 2012

I was originally happy to support this, but I've been a bit let down. I know you can't do anything about the stamps and scratches from the post offices, but the content of the photos has mostly been disappointing. This may be against your "artistic vision," but it would have been more meaningful for me to have a picture representative of each state, or at the very least an image that captures the spirit of each state. A picture of a nondescript grassy mound doesn't tell me anything.

So far I received 5 postcards. Three of them damaged with that same mark in the middle. Yes I am dissappointed, I was hoping by now, I could find out where they are taken. So far I have no clue, it could be Africa. And yes, the quality of the printer is bad.

I don't really care about the money, but you guys missing in action to give some extra info pisses me off.

    17. Missing_small

Creator Stan Tsunoda on July 18, 2012

Well, I'm not Stan. I'm the spouse who begged him for these postcards as a gift. Count me in with Mark and Dan: disappointed. I'm glad we went with a $50 instead of $100 pledge.

The post cards have been erratic and mostly, strangely blue with a bunch having the same mark in the middle of the image. Is there a problem with your printer? Since your project garnered about 4 times your goal, I expected you'd have bought an excellent printer. My old Canon prints a wider range of colors than this. The idea is lovely, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired.

The lesson for me is not to get carried away with Kickstarter. The barrier to entry is low and there are going to be projects promising more than they will deliver-- if they deliver at all.

Got my postcard this weekend! I couldn't make out the postmark, but by looking at the map on the website I figured out is a motorcycle track in Minnesota. I only pledged for 1 card (international option...) but now wish I'd done more, although part of the fun was forgetting all about it and then being surprised with mail!

I have to agree with Mr Atkinson, in that I'm kinda let down by this project. I'm happy to help support you guys, but the reward seems kind of... not great. I'd actually be fine if you just stop sending mine, as they're not what I was expecting, and they're just finding their way into the trash. Thanks anyway guys.

I've got to say that I feel really let down by this which makes me think that I must have really missed the point of your campaign.

As of this morning, I've received 5 postcards and all of them has a stamp from Pennsylvania. What? Why? There is literally *nothing* on the back of any of the cards which shows which state they were sent from. One of the postcards has a postmark that makes it look a little like 'South Jersey' but it's badly stamped, so I can't quite tell. I accepted that the USPO wouldn't print a good postmark, but you guys could have at least gone to the effort of buying stamps in each state.

Because it's such a unique thing to have, I was going to mount the entire set on a reversible frame, but that's a bit pointless since I'll end up with a set of 50 postcards that look like they've been sent from Pennsylvania and your word that you posted them from where you said (and possibly the odd legible postmark).

It's great that you're going to produce this guide at the end, but I don't think it'll really help any in my opinion.

We backed at $50. "Every other state as we pass through it"

We're on the west coast and to date have received 2 post cards. Is there anyway to know whether there are more floating around in the US Postal Service or whether we've somehow fallen off the mail list?

Creator Going Nowhere on June 11, 2012

hey bob, thanks! we are aware of the issues you pointed out but there isn't a whole lot we can do! the backs of the cards all all pre-printed so the URL is where it is. you'll notice that some cards will have the bars actually printed on the bottom of the postcard instead of stuck on with a label. that's out of our control! and in terms of identifying the state -- we'll have a state by state guide posted eventually but in the meantime just enjoy the mystery! it's unfortunately not feasible for us to write on every single postcard because we send between 350-500 per state.

hey nethra, there's a lot of consideration which goes into deciding which images are selected for printing. luckily you can continue to check out all the extra images on the site as we go! thanks!

Creator Bob Baddeley on June 8, 2012

Nice work so far guys. A couple thoughts based on the two cards I've gotten so far:
      1) The postcards have a sticker placed across the back bottom which covers up the url to your site. If you move it up 1/2 an inch, the link won't be covered by the sticker.
      2) The postmarks are hit and miss for readability. If you could somehow print the location (at least the state), of the photo, that would be awesome.
