MYMP presents the Movement Project! We want to create films that discuss our migration histories and our movement narratives.

More About Us

The MoAD Youth Media Program (MYMP) is an interdisciplinary youth development and job readiness program featuring a rich mentoring environment and hands-on experiences at the Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD). We are a group of high school teens from all over the Bay area, bringing our love of telling stories through media and desire to learn more about our histories. This summer, we have had the opportunity to work with Streetside Stories, a local non-profit organization that works with young people to tell their stories through literacy and the arts. We have gotten to learn more about film, storytelling and most importantly the links between our many histories. This program has had an energizing effect on all of us and has really inspired us as young socially conscious filmmakers!

The Movement Project: What we want to do!

" Movement: As we move (migrate) whether involuntarily or voluntarily we bring our traditions and beliefs with us."

Where are we from? How did we get here? How are we connected? Why do people move? How do you move?

We want to create films that creates dialogue around our migration histories! A partnership between MYMP and Streetside stories will bring this to fruition and support us in the development of this project. With your support, our films will be shown at the Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) spring of 2013!

WHAT YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS WILL SUPPORT:

A partnership between Streetside Stories and MYMP for the fall semester to develop and finish The Movement Project, as well as Integrate the arts into the MoAD Youth Media Program!

 MEET THE MYMP TEENS!

Check out our previous filming skills:

The MoAD Youth Media Program teens created video-poems as an artistic expression to the MoAD question:

"When Did You Discover you were African?"

The creation of these videos helped teens learn more about their connection to the African Diaspora and introduced them to basic film making techniques.
