Firstly thanks to Severin of www.littlereading.com and www.evildivacomics.com for tieing together my voice over with my storyboards for the short movie!

Secondly I know it's cheesy, but it needs to be said that I am very grateful to all who have read my comic online (www.storyofthedoor.com) and who purchased chapter 1 when it made it to print. Without that initial support, chapter 2 might not even exist online, let alone existing now on kickstarter as a printed book fetus. 8D

It's exactly the same as chapter 1 (which was gorgeous, if you haven't seen it) except chapter 2 is TWICE the length, half done in WATERCOLOR, and there will be printing on the interior of the cover (I hope. I could maybe cut costs by leaving it blank again. T_T)

As a special gift, the first 100 print copies sold will be numbered and they will come with a fancy postcard of the cover! I'm excited for the postcard since I plan for it to be printed with ares of gloss coating as accents. It comes out very pretty. Any page that I colored in photoshop was originally drawn in pencil at approximately 9 x 13 inches on bristol paper. All of chapter 1 is available and parts of chapter 2. .

100$ - you will receive one watercolor page.

Please read the comment section for available page numbers. These pages are all 11 x 17 inches. This deal comes with the comic, buttons, charms, and cover prints.

150$ - you will receive the back cover painting which is page 61 of the comic.

For 200$, you will receive one of the double page spreads.

For 500$, You will receive the cover painting which is 23 x 13 inches. It comes with three copies of the comic, buttons, a charm, and a print of every major illustration I have in circulation currently including the two cover prints. I think this is a total of 10 11 x 17 prints. More, if I complete further large illustrations by the time the book is out. Basically you get this cover painting and then A PILE OF EVERYTHING I WANT TO SURPRISE YOU WITH which is a minimum of 10 11 x 17s.

So there's all the technical details. Here are a few personal ones.

Firstly I really want to convey what a fantastic year I've had, drawing this comic, attending conventions, meeting readers who have seen it online, meeting people who have never seen it who are NOW readers. _{Despite frequent complaints of being too slow at watercolors to manage updates. T_T} Last year, I graduated with my undergrad finally, took an amazing internship, and moved home with my parents so that I could afford to print chapter 1 and truly really try to go for this dream of drawing and self publishing my own comic. It was completely worth it. I do honestly feel a little like crying as I'm writing this. It was worth it.

The only part of printing chapter 2 that merrits "maybe" is that chapter 2 is going to take about 3000$ to print.

Much has been said about web comics being a labor of love. This one is.

It's also come up that art is a purple elephant among other disciplines in that it is rarely motivated by money or power. Truly, I draw this comic out of a desire to improve and because it makes me happy (usually XD.)

It is not, then, for lack of passion that this comic may not see print. It is that 3000 dollar bill.

I just checked. I am completely sure I am not hiding 3000$ under my bed (yes, I was hopeful too).

So ... I would like to make a deal with you. I pay half of chapter 2, you pay half of chapter 2. Or actually, I pay 1800, you pay 1200. That's what it's gonna take.

For those who are interested, I'd like to tell you a little about the printing cost and answer a few questions.

You might likely be wondering ... WHY SO MUCH?!? Why not print through lulu or kablam?

The answer is that I want the highest quality print job or I don't want to bother. I have poured somewhere between 20 - 40 hours into each watercolor and photoshoped page (so let's average that to 30 hours ... multiplied by 48 pages .... I don't even want to know, I'm not checking the calculator.) That much work merrits the most beautiful print job or I don't even want to see it printed. Lulu and Kablam cannot come close to printing the quality this work deserves.

Additionally, 1000 copies does not cost twice as much as 500 ... there is a lower unit cost per book the more you order!

This grand year of 2010, I ordered 600 copies of chapter 1. I sold nearly ALL of them! I wish I had ordered 1000 copies. (But this is actually part of the problem ... I need to reorder chapter 1, which is yet another 1800$ or so.)

Plus attending conventions ... if you have participated in an artist alley and are considering doing a web comic and self publishing it, here is a quick factoid for you - you dream of selling your comic and making it a successful project. Let's say you've been selling prints a few years like I had been prior to TG. Well ok. Your comic comes out, it's more successful than you could ever have imagined it being! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Aw waitaminit ... people buy the 5$ comic that costed 2.50$ to print and ....... they don't buy anything else. Poster sales are down drastically. You're no longer breaking even at conventions, you're actually losing money DESPITE THE FACT your audience has grown astronomically and you've never felt so loved. XDDDD

Talk about a double edged sword, eh? I'm not bitching, I'm facting. Oh ... life.................

The problem at hand then is to spend as much money as possible up front to get the lowest unit cost and come out better farther down the road. Rather than spending the minimum amount and coming out barely on top. I need to find a way to make this comic work for me, or I need to stop selling it.

So anyway. I have high hopes for TG to meet it's kickstarter goal. I can't stress enough though that if it doesn't, I don't know where I'd get the money to make it happen. A bank loan maybe? But I'm not a registered or established business. T_T Plus the interest a bank would charge. I've decided if TG can't raise the needed funding, I'm going to go on hiatus, draw a pile of fanart and some hot chicks, and see if selling that at cons won't raise the money to print chapter 2 in a few months. =___= Yes, that's a threat.

All the original art is for sale to help fund the printing! Please don't feel you're taking something from me that I'd rather keep. I do care about my originals. But I didn't draw them so they could lay flat in a box for years and never make it to printed form or to being hung on a wall. It would bring me great joy to see my originals find homes!

How does original art ship? It is sandwiched between 4 sheets of foam core and taped together. It will not bend unless it is run into by a fork lift.
