Rainbow pulsations

After much cutting, soldering, wiring and coding, our lighting team has created a panel prototype for the rainbow. The final two rainbows will contain just over ten times this number of lights!
The photo below shows the unlit lights attached to newly painted yardsticks, a big set of braces on rainbow teeth. In the video, you see a simple, calm, slow-cycling rainbow, one of the many patterns we’ll be providing on the larger version.
For those of you who are interested in the technical details, we’re using the LPD8806 digitial RGB LED strips to create our rainbow, which allow us to control each LED individually, instead of setting all of them to a single color. The older version of these strips only allowed each individual pixel to be set on or off, but the beauty of the LPD8806 strips is that they have built-in 1.2 MHz high speed 7-bit PWM for each channel and 21-bit color per LED - which will allow us to display a stunning 2 million colors per pixel!
