About this project
Blind mezzo-soprano Laurie Rubin's moving poem called Do You Dream in Color? is set to music by Bruce Adolphe. Laurie has recorded this 20-minute song with pianist Marija Stroke for Bridge Records. They are seeking funds to help produce, manufacture and market the recording.
Watch the video to hear Laurie speak about the message and meaning of this project and to hear some of the music.
Do you Dream in Color? explores Laurie's reactions to frequent questions about her abilities and perceptions as a blind person. The recording will also feature songs by the blind composer Joaquin Rodrigo, songs by Gabriel Fauré, and a new song cycle written for Laurie, in Hebrew, called In the Mountains of Jerusalem by the composer Noam Sivan. Marija Stroke is the pianist for all the music on the CD except for the songs by Sivan, who plays the piano himself for those.
Funds are being sought to cover the essentials only (no artist fees), which include recording, editing, CD manufacturing, artwork, hall and piano rental and moving, marketing. All funds will be received by Artful Thinkers, Inc., a non-profit that is turning over all proceeds from this Kickstarter campaign to the Do You Dream in Color? recording project.
