We had a fantastic gig at Station Inn last week. Some of you wonderful backers attended. We were fortunate to have the same stellar band as the Downtown Church show- Byron House, Bryan Owings, Steve Hindalong, and David Mansfield, plus Amy Stroup, Oliver Wood from The Wood Brothers, Will Kimbrough, Australia's very own Ben Abraham, and a few others. Cindy Morgan was supposed to join us, but one of her girls got sick that very day. I think you'll enjoy this loosey goosey gig! We performed Mercyland: Hymns For The Rest Of Us in its entirety a few weeks ago in Nashville with over 700 in attendance- a sold out crowd!
Amy Stroup, Shawn Mullins, Buddy Miller, The North Mississippi Allstars, Emmylou Harris, and I performed the songs we each did on the project. Filling in for those artists who couldn't be there were Matraca Berg (Leaning on You), The Wood Brothers (Walking Over The Water), The McCrary Sisters (Lights In The Valley), Dave Perkins (Light Of Your Love), and Kasey Chambers & Shane Nicholson (From This Valley).
I opened the set with Blind Willie Johnson's "Soul of a Man" and Emmy closed with "The Pearl" with all artists on stage.
We recorded and filmed the evening, and are trying to decide whether or not to release a CD and DVD of the evening. You will be the first to know!
I am about to Kickstart a new Phil Madeira solo project. Again, you'll be the first to know!
And while Mercyland hasn't been a commercial success yet, the interest is high, and people seem to want another one. Stay tuned!
