Update #11: Need more addresses
Still waiting on addresses from most of you, please let me know where to send your CD if you have not done so already (robdeeming@gmail.com).
Also thought I would post the tracklisting for you all to see (attached). Hopefully there are some tracks on there that will inspire you to late night greatness.
For those that have given me addresses, look for your CD in your postbox early next week (few days later for overseas)...
Update #10: All done
Shock and horror I know, but thanks to some technical wizardry, the CDs are all done, and thanks to the genius of Steph, the designs are now complete as well.
Printing and packing are the final steps, so we are getting really close.
In preparation for being done, I am going to need everyone's postal address so that I can send CDs out to each of you.
Can you please email me your address at robdeeming@gmail.com? I hope to have all packages sent by next weekend.
Update #9: Postage time
Update #8: We are getting there
Update #7: Its been a shocker
Update #6: Slow and steady wins the race
Update #5: Progress getting made
Update #4: We got there
Update #3: 8 days left!
There has been a shocking slow-up in pledges over the last few days, leaving us with 12 more to add in the next week.
Please do all you can to share the news around and get people excited about the project. Remember, the CD only gets made if we reach the $500 target by next Tuesday.
Continuing the spirit for letting you know about tracks that will be a part of the mix, I thought I would introduce a second track from the CD.
Most of the tracks on the CD will likely end up being little known treasures from across the musical spectrum, but every great music mix needs to include a couple of classics to establish some euphoric balance.
In 1967, a 15 year old Kingstonian called Dawn Penn recorded her version of the now epic track You don't love me (No, No, No).
The record was actually originally penned by Coxsone Dodd, and that original version, featuring Jackie Mittoo on lyrics, is the one I'll be including on the album. There is something hauntingly simple about this first version, not least the use of a piano instead of horns as the key backing instrument. Its just a beautiful piece of music.
Check out the video below for not just the original version, but a super early dub reworking that came out on the b-side of the Dodd release (and which introduced the horns for the first time).
