About this project
9Realms is the moniker for a fantasy TV series that is based on Norse Mythology, set in the backdrop of Catholic 940 A.D Germany, during a time which is known today as “The Holy Roman Empire”. Inspired by Gladiator (FF), Centurion (FF), Lord of the Rings (FF), Game of Thrones (TV), Pans Labrinth (FF), Dark Souls (VG) and Valkyrie Profile (VG); the 9Realms TV series aims to create a fictional moving experience. God/Creature design is inspired by the work of Guillermo Del Toro, Director of Hellboy and Pans Labyrinth. 9Realms: Anginn (‘Beginning’ in Old English) are 3 short Medieval/Fantasy films, each will run between 10-15 minutes. They will serve as the plot back-story, or introducing tales, for the pilot episode of 9Realms. Production will use these 3 episodes to achieve the following goals: Gain public knowledge of 9Realms, Seek Investor interest, and Seek television network interests.
A) Gaining Public Knowledge of Our Project : A primary target is to promote interest via web viewings and to establish a fan base of 9Realms. Sparking people's interest in the story and production of 9Realms, will light a fire that can only grow. Much like kickstarter projects, word can spread, leading tons of people to our sites, and garnishing enough interest for Investors, TV networks, to pick up interest in our project.
B) Pitching the Pilot to Investors : We have a teaser for our pilot, which will be shown to investors to seek funding. However, due to our very limited finances, the teaser does not have the full impact that we sought. Following producing these 3 shorts, we will be better able to show our investors the cinematic quality that our production is capable of. If they see the true aspect of what we can do, we may be able to interest them into investing for the entire pilot
C) Pitching the Entire Series to TV Networks : By all means, there is a plethora of TV networks out there that would be interested in this kind of series, for instance, Syfy, Starz, FX, HBO, AMC. Presently, Historical and Fantasy Dramas win big with investors, because of a growing contemporary audience, With Impressive short episodes, we may be able to pitch the idea of our series straight to the networks, rendering us no need to raise funding for our pilot episode . This would be the ideal option.
There is a lot of good that can come out of producing 9Realms : Anginn. We hope to be able to share with everyone our vision for 9Realms, and Anginn is the first step into taking this project into the big leagues. Episode 1 : Shadows of The Father (936 A.D)
On an isolated farm in the German Countryside, Thomas Cassy, a soldier on a long war campaign, returns home to his wife and 2 children. He reveals he was able to break away from his brigade momentarily, but may only stay for a few days.
Using the next few days to bond, Thomas learns how well his children are growing, and how well his wife is doing raising them alone. Despite her pleas to leave his life as a soldier, Thomas eventually must return to his troop. He promises his family to write, and states he will return very soon.
Episode 2 : The Desperate Plan (940 A.D)
A brigade of Demonic looking soldiers, The Red Specters, set up base at a brothel in a large city. After a catholic ceremony, they are allowed to spend the night as they please.
Thomas and his lifelong friend, Edward, discuss the never ending campaign of death and destruction they are involved in. Thomas has not seen his family in over 4 years, forced to keep his relationship a secret from the troops. Due to loyalty, It is forbidden for soldiers to have a family outside of the specters. Being wary of spies working for the Commander of the troop, Thomas contemplates escaping. He looks for his way out, a way to abandon his life as a merciless killer, and his chance to return home to his family, keeping his promise to return.
Episode 3 : Her Silent Cries (940 A.D)
A young mother, Katerina, lives in a small village with her blind daughter, Lydia. After a rough life of traveling town to town, they have finally settled in, finding what they hope is a safe place to call home. Katerina and Lydia participate in the villages catholic ceremony. However, in secret , they worship a pagan religion. Katerina teaches her daughter how to use her “gifts”. Among them are the abilities to sense, and sometimes even communicate with, spirits of the deceased.
With a few calamities already befalling the village, the villagers have begun to look at Katertina and Lydia as the source. The mayor of the village soon finds out that the pair have a dark secret. What ensues is a tragic “Witch” hunt, that leads to the opening scene of the “9Realms” Pilot.

If we are able to raise our project goal, we promise the look of the film to be Amazing. The funding will be used to create armor and props, build partial sets, rent locations and equipment, pay for travel expenses, feed the cast and crew, rent animals and handlers, and create the custom score for the films. All of these steps will be documented in the "Making of" feature, which will be included with the collectors edition of the films DVD and Blu Ray.
If through some amazing work of faith and kindness, we are able to raise more than our project goal, we will put it all towards the production of the 9Realms pilot. Since we are seeking a much higher production budget for the pilot, which will run an hour and a half, any kind of financial contributions will be sure to help.

To achieve the proper look, and feel, of a period piece, one must invest the proper time and resources. To produce 9Realms : Anginn effectively, with the proper impact to establish fans and network interest, we must create AMAZING material. Films that show our creativity, our style, and our dreams. We need to leave the viewer wanting more, not to question any effects, wardrobe or set design. We want to be realistic, that is our goal.
The fact is, $37,500 is a small amount for a period piece of this magnitude. Especially considering the overall length, which will be about 25-30 minutes. This also includes the introduction we will be filming of the 9realms pilot, which will be using the same location, actors, and resources, as episode 3 of Anginn, "Her Silent Cries."
The funding we receive must be stretched in a lot of ways. There are some locations we must rent, we must buy/create many wardrobe pieces, which itself includes 3 sets of armor that are custom created for the troops. We must rent animals and there handlers, specifically horses, pigs, and chickens. This will give all the episodes an authentic feel, that can not be achieved with special effects. We will build partial sets, especially for episodes 2 and 3, which require an impressive church, port town brothel, and a 10th century Romania farming village. To pull off the rest of the settings, we will use green screening and set extensions, using 3d composites and digital matte paintings. We must rent our equipment, which includes lights, jibs, generators, basic grip gear and dollies. We will be shooting using the Cannon 7D DSLR, which in itself looks amazing, and is a really cheap compared to renting other camera options. All of this will be documented in our 9Realms : Anginn documentary, which will be included with the special editions of the films blu ray and DVD.
Travel, we pay the actors for there commute, and may have to put some up in hotels. Food, always expensive, but our cast and crew will be paid for there hard work with decent meals. After all, chances are no will get paid. If we create something amazing, and get picked up as a show, or a chance to do a pilot, that will be our reward.
The only crew getting paid may be our DP, who is highly experienced and has a lot to contribute to the project, and our composer, whom is a major Hollywood composer, and has worked on numerous feature films and videogames soundtrack. His work is amazing. They have both expressed interest, however, I can not name them, as they only agreed to be attached to the project if we receive funding. The vision and score of 9Realms will be....epic. Legendary!
Editing and basic VFX work will be done by myself, no money needed there. The more heavy VFX work will be created by an experienced 3d artist, with slight pay.
There’s your basic breakdown of what our funding will be used for. That said, we are really not seeking that much for this kind of material. Any additional funding will be supplied by investors, which will help to promote, submit, and distribute the films.

9Realms is set in our historic past. We have done a lot of research, which is still ongoing, in order to create an interesting story with a believable setting. All our landmarks are based on real locations. These settings include Trient (Modern day Trento, Italy) Venedig (Modern day Venice), Sisak and Fiume (locations in Romania), Bavaria, Andernach (Germany) and much more.
The story includes real historic figures, including Otto the 1st, Eberhard of Franconia, Giselbert of Lorraine and Pope John IX, with many more to be written in the future.
While the main arc of story is about Thomas, and his quest to return to his family from the afterlife, “Midgard” (The term for our realm in norse mythology) will be based entirely on our past in the 10th century. If 9Realms ever gets picked as a series, you can expect to see a lot of historic events, names and locations. -
The 3 films of Anginn, along with the pilot for 9realms itself, all take place on Midgard (Earth). The fantasy elements are small, with little mention of Norse Mythology.
However, once the 9Realms series begins, you will be brought into the mystical worlds that the Vikings spoke of. This includes Asgard, Yggdrasil, Niffelheim, Hel, Midgard, Alfheimr, Muspell, and more.
Gods such as the popular Odin, Thor, Loki, Heimdall, and Freyja will be featured. Others will play important roles, Queen Hel, Tyr, Ullr, Baldr, Hodur, Hotherus and much, much more. There are so many Interesting characters, and stories to tell from the pages Norse Mythology. Valkyries, Einherjar, Njorns, elfs, Fire, Ice Giants , Dwarfs….there is a lot to pull from.
9Realms will attempt to tell certain stories, from the runic inscriptions of the Vikings, to the Poetic Edda and Prose Edda. These stories will be slightly altered, to fit the context and characters of our series. However, it will be a unique, and dramatic series, with an amazing back story of Worlds, Gods, and creatures to pull from.
This series will be heavily based off Norse Mythology. It will also be heavily based off human history. It will be very interesting to combine these two, and that is the tough job that 9Realms will attempt.

Ty was born with a keen interested in crafting compelling and epic stories. Like most filmmakers, once he got his hands on his fathers camcorder, he would sneak around making "awesome" flicks with his friends and family. Once Ty got into high school, he discovered the joys of non-linear editing, and was hooked. Kaboom, Career choice....made.
Ty attended Full Sail University in 2004, and graduated with an Associates degree in Film/Video Production. He moved back to CT, working for a few small video production companies. He has worked on numerous media projects, including Documentaries, Short Films, Commercials, Music Videos, and Corporate Videos as a Camera Man, Editor and Visual Effects Artist. Ty has also works as a freelance editor/motion graphics artist since 2005.
Loving every aspect of production, from script writing to post, Ty has been building an array of his own projects since college. 9Realms is one of these projects. Hoping to break into the field of writing and directing, This will be Ty's first major directorial debut.
