About the Series:
"Tommy Kat Records" is comedy series about a woman named Tommy who owns an independent record store and fights everyday to save her livelihood and passion in a tough economy and struggling industry.
Our pilot web series seeks to promote small business in America, featuring a female business owner and the eclectic record store experience, while providing a platform for independent artists to showcase original music. Countless record stores across the country continue to thrive and show us the importance of the music conversation in American culture, as a place where music lovers congregate to discover new and old gems. Vinyl is back! That clear, crisp crackle and the sensation of holding the album in your hands, enjoying the cover art close up is a feeling that can't be matched by digital.
Our goal with our pilot web series is to launch our initial 5 episodes online, pick up a fan following, secure sponsorship, then pitch to cable networks as a scripted series. It has been far too long since the networks have offered a show about the plight of small business and even longer since a female business owner has been portrayed. We feel this needs to change.
We know that hipsters and baby boomers alike will dig a show about a record store. And, because we're a comedy, we appeal to all those who enjoy good music and love to laugh!
About the Shoot:
We have a great script and production team in place, and we want to shoot our five-episode pilot web series on location in Austin, Texas - The Live Music Capital of the World. We will use high definition cameras to provide the highest production value. We will hire the most experienced, talented cast and crew who capture the right look and quality to make "Tommy Kat Records" really sparkle on screen. Trailer Space Records in Austin has agreed to let us use their independent record store for our main shooting location (featured in promo video). http://trailerspacerecords.com We are working with a local Austin Producer to showcase the magic of the great music city. We plan to premiere our series in record stores around the country, followed by live in-store concerts. About the Budget:
All monies raised will go towards securing top of the line cameras, lighting and sound equipment and crew, flying our main talent and director from Los Angeles to Austin and housing them for a ten-day shoot schedule, showcasing original music and artists in Austin, post production costs, submission fees to festivals and delivery of all print and advertising materials to market our final product! We plan to launch our series online, pick up a fan following on the web, then pitch it to network/cable television. But, we need your help to create a television-worthy product. Melody Be Watson met the talented filmmakers/actresses Summer Sinclair, Carlisle Forrester, and Angie Hill when they won a jury prize at the 2010 Oxford Film Festival for their short film "Now or Never." It was then that Melody knew her story of three women running a record store would become a reality. After reading Melody's short film script, Summer put the project into motion. She repackaged the short as a web-series, a writing collaboration was born and their record store days began...
