About this project

Any indie rock fan who’s heard the line “Stuck a pin in your backbone” has fallen hard and fast for the Archers of Loaf, the North Carolina band that reigned over the indie scene from 1993 to 1998.

Well, the four original members (Eric Bachmann, Matt Gentling, Eric Johnson, & Mark Price) have reformed in all their glory to help celebrate the rerelease of their classic debut ICKY METTLE on Merge Records in August, by playing a tour that is selling out rooms from LA to NYC.

Filmmaker Gorman Bechard, who just directed the beloved Color Me Obsessed, a Film About The Replacements (which Rolling Stone called “One of the seven best new music documentaries of the year!” thank you, very much...or really just read this review!), turns his lens on the Archers for two shows at the legendary Cat’s Cradle in Chapel Hill.  Bechard, who’d seen the band countless times, will bring the energy, the sweat, the sheer excitement of the live Archers of Loaf show to your DVD player in this feature-length concert documentary.

This KickStarter campaign is to help with some of the costs of making the film, from getting the crew down to Chapel Hill, to the needed drives for all that digital footage, some equipment rental, and hopefully, if we well exceed our goal, something left over to cover film festival fees.

The film will be shot in HD (the main camera will be the RED ONE) by three cinematographers who between them have over 65 years behind the camera, in an in-your-face style to make you feel as if you’re leaning up against the Cat’s Cradle stage.  The song selection, from the iconic AUDIOWHORE to the classic WEB IN FRONT, is guaranteed to please every Archers fan.

The Archers of Loaf were one of the great bands of the 90s, arguably one of the greatest live bands of all time.  This film will forever preserve their live legacy, and allow you to experience the power of the Loaf anytime you like.
