About this project
'Sundowning' is often experienced by people with dementia or Alzheimer's. This syndrome causes agitation and hallucinations during the daily cycle, especially as the evening approaches.
Our group of artists, from the theater, music and writing programs at the California Institute of the Arts, has been exploring aging, mental health and dementia. We are creating a script for workshopping in May and will then spend June and July refining, rehearsing and preparing to tour the show for its August premier at the Edinburgh Fringe, as part of the largest arts festival in the world.
"At Sundown" is the story of the end of our lives told in our youth. A collectively imagined autobiography about the unraveling of memory. A joyous physical theater collage about clinging to the past and letting it go.
From the same company that brought “I like it to be a play every afternoon” to the Fringe in 2009:
“...evoke[s] complex psychologies, acute social mores, and distinctive relationships in fragments of drama, music and movement...an hour spent in good company.” - Three Weeks,
“gentle satire with imaginative, sharp, intuitive performances by Jenny Greer and Sallie Merkel.” - EdinburghGuide.com
We are raising money to cover travel for our six company members traveling to Edinburgh.
