About this project

In 2008 I spent two months in northern Maine filming opinionated and passionate community members about their views of a controversial housing development proposal in the Moosehead Lake Region. I focused on what their lives are like now and how they could change if the development plan is approved or rejected. The Moosehead Lake Region is home to the largest lake in one state and the largest undeveloped forest east of the Mississippi. The result of my expedition is the documentary, Moosehead’s Wicked Good Plan.

The plan was proposed in 2004 by Plum Creek Timber Company, the largest private land owner in the country. In 1998 they bought 900,000 acres of land surrounding Moosehead Lake and six years later, their 30 year development proposal started an ongoing debate about how best to rejuvenate the economy and how to conserve land—land that all involved agree is the most valuable resource the region has.

The funding I am raising now will go towards post-production and editing. I will hire an editor for five weeks to edit a rough cut. The rough cut will be used to apply for further grants. The final film will be submitted to PBS for consideration and will also be submitted to national and international environmental and documentary film festivals. Your support will help shine light on a little known, extraordinary part of the country.
