The Red Ale Project is an artisanal approach to brewing that celebrates the unique character of every single hand-made batch of beer.
THE RED ALE PROJECT is a complete departure from the modern brewing industry as we know it. It’s an artisanal approach to brewing that acknowledges and celebrates every single hand-made batch of beer. This is Red Ale like you’ve never seen or tasted before. It’s a true “biere de terroir,” a reflection of Colorado’s unique climate, soil, water, and topography.
Every single batch of beer will be different from the one before as we experiment with different types of malted barley, unique hop varieties, ferment with different yeast strains and souring bacterias, and utilize various types of oak barrels for extended ageing. All of this experimentation while staying within our guidelines of Red Ale. Never before has a brewery set such rigid boundaries for itself, yet found such a creative way to approach them.
This is BLACK SHIRT BREWING CO and THE RED ALE PROJECT
Where The Money Will Go:
We have set our minimum goal at $25k. As some of you may know, the startup cost for even an artisanal brewery like ours is staggering. The equipment to successfully brew world-class beer is highly sought after, specialized, and in many cases, built to order. This means that the brewhouse, fermenters, and brite tanks cost some major coin, let alone a glycol chiller, packaging line, etc. This isn’t even taking into consideration the building, zoning, licensing, etc. However, we aren’t fundraising for these items, as we already have them in our possession. In fact, we have spent the last ten years and our entire life savings preparing to launch BLACK SHIRT BREWING CO. We have located our brewery in the RiNo Art District just north of downtown Denver in a very vibrant and exciting neighborhood. Currently, we are in the middle of construction – doing things like installing floor drains, painting the walls, running electricity and gas lines, building bathrooms, and building a tasting room that will seat 40 people. Construction projects take twice as long and are 3 times more expensive than could ever be anticipated. Like we’ve said before, we are a community-driven brewery and we need your help to get us through!
If we reach $25,000 we will be able to get the production side of our brewery up-and-running and get our Red Ale into the market. In addition to bringing our “standard” Red Ale into the market, this would allow us to start on THE RED ALE PROJECT by experimenting with different hops and malts and furthering our ability to create dynamic beer that reflects Colorado’s terroir.
If we can raise $50,000 we will be able to complete the bathrooms and our tasting room and have a place for people to come and enjoy the beer where it is made. We would be able to give tours and host great events as well like private concerts, underground movie nights, and many other exciting events – trust us we have tricks up our sleeves! This would also allow us to dive deeper into THE RED ALE PROJECT, experimenting with different yeasts and souring bacterias. Sour beer requires a complete set of equipment dedicated to its production, requiring this additional funding.
If we are able to raise $75,000 we would be able to finish the brewery how we would like and start building and filling our barrel room and bottle cellar. Think barrel-aged single-batch beer – no other brewery is going this far! This would really put us on the map, set us apart, and allow us to blow the doors off the brewing industry. This will be like no brewery you have been to before. THE RED ALE PROJECT will really shine if we can raise this much money and would allow us to get really creative. If you want to see a boutique brewery take it to the next level, then help us reach $75k!
Please tell your friends and family about this campaign and remember – every single dollar counts and is appreciated! Thanks and Cheers!
