Help us finish a documentary about four teens coming-of-age in a small, rural Mexican town that has suffered 50% migration to the U.S.

La Tierra de los Adioses/The Land of Goodbyes is a documentary film currently in production about Iván, Ana, Lupita and Ulises, adolescents coming-of-age in Zapotitlán Palmas, Oaxaca, Mexico. This small rural community has suffered 50 percent migration to the United States. The teenagers have watched their brothers, cousins, best friends and parents leave among shrinking opportunities within the town. Having dealt with abandonment, they must now face the decision for themselves. Should they leave as so many they know have? Or will they remain in the only home they’ve known?

Ayúdanos a transmitir nuevas voces!

**UPDATE**

When you donate $50 or more you will receive a straw handbag made from the craftwork special to Zapotitlán Palmas. Here's our short documentary about those handbags:

“It would be good to have more jobs so that they don’t immigrate anymore. They wouldn’t go there. I’m sure of that.”

 -Iván

They are there so that we can study, so that we don’t suffer the same as them, so that we don’t also go there.”

 -Ana

“My dad works in construction in the United Sates…They leave because they need money.”

 -Lupita

My parents need my support, and I will give it.  My mom cries for me to stay because it’s something that hurts her: to let me go.”

-Ulises

We’re raising money to finish filming!

We’re currently knee-deep in production, but we won’t be able to finish without your help! In order to give such a complex story justice, we need to keep going back to continue shooting.  We’re raising funds for travel and stay to and around Zapotitlán Palmas, and the U.S., where family have gone to work. Our plan is to finish production by December 2011.
