We request seed money! Seed School is a ground breaking 8-day school that will teach people to create new seed production and distribution systems.
Think seeds first! Start your own REGIONAL seed company, add a seed component to a nursery or non-profit or incorporate seed security into your Economic Development Program. Seed School will inspire and teach the practical, detailed information necessary to recreate the genetic foundation for a truly sustainable agriculture.
Many gardeners, farmers and growers are still purchasing, one-size-fits-all seeds every year. They could and should be saving seeds they grow selected for qualities and characteristics that work best for them.
Seed School is an innovative 8-day school designed to help participants create new regional and sustainable seed production and distribution systems. The workshop will train gardeners, farmers, seed savers, entrepreneurs, ngo’s, policy makers and anyone else interested in turning the tide on the industrialization of our food and agriculture systems.
Classroom time in this permaculture inspired program will range from an introduction to genetics to modern database management (for those wishing to start a seed business or add a seed component to an existing organization).
It will be balanced with hands-on activities including harvesting, processing, germination testing and packaging seeds. Seed School takes place in the beautiful Verde Valley in Arizona from September 25th through October 2nd.
Teaching seed saving is a response to the monopolization of our seeds and our food. It will help students gain the skills necessary to reconstruct practical, new models for both profit making and non-profit institutions.
Those concerned with food security, diversity and BETTER TASTING FOOD will revel in the opportunity to celebrate and learn about the magic of seeds. Local areas are encouraged to grow what works best for them, host fall potlucks and swap seeds.
The money raised will help produce this vital event and help pay for the venue, materials, guest lecturers and other expenses.
Here is a break out of those expenses:
Guest lectures including mileage: $1,000
Food: $2400
Graphics: $300
Supplies & Infrastructure: $800
Housing - $500.
We are keeping the number of participants at 15 to facilitate an intimate and efficient learning environment. Thank you so much for your support.
