We've launched an exciting new project of our own! Introducing the Kickstarter app for iPhone!

Funded! This project successfully raised its funding goal on January 23, 2011.

Photo-main

Boom Bap Tourism, solo show. Dope sound design/choreography/text, some altered history, Hip Hop, and the pursuit of happiness.

We've reached our initial goal(!) and I am in great awe of this blessing...
But we're not done just yet. Read below:

BOOM BOOM
Boom Bap Tourism is a solo show.
A collision of dance, theatre, poetry, Hip Hop, and autobiography.
It's about memory, desire, aging, and craft.
About being truthful vs keeping it real.
Streets to Marine Corp; dope rhymes and Gene Kelly.
Sound like your tea? Cool. Then keep reading... it's not very long.

BILLS TO PAY
My sound designer and I started Boom Bap Tourism a year and a half ago.
Along the way, we've picked up several collaborators and
it's now turned into one hell of a dreamteam.
We're now in our final phase (premiere! Jan 20~21!).
Through the support of multiple foundations and generous donors,
I have raised close to 85% of my budget (mostly to pay for said "dreamteam").
There is currently a gap in the budget that I need to bridge. And so I look to you for help.

Your contributions will allow us (well, me really) to keep the
ticket prices at $0 and allow for more people -- especially teens,
and most especially at-risk teens, who are in many ways
part of the fabric of this piece -- to see Boom Bap Tourism at a great venue and
for us (well, me again) to put up a great show and
not have to stress about "breaking even" at the box office.
(Any funds raised ABOVE the goal amount will go directly to pay the only person that is both doing the most work and getting paid nothing... ME!)

Please consider making a donation today.
Or tomorrow.
Unless today is Jan 22nd.

sincerely,
Makoto

Okay, now we're getting into tangibles. Boom Bap Tourism-inspired CD soundtrack. This is a collaboration between me (Makoto) and Mikaal Sulaiman. Includes original tracks from the show. This is made-to-order. And the insert is artful in itself, as the text and artwork sheds light on the the process of making the soundscore for Boom Bap Tourism. It's pretty cool. And of course, funding credit for the lifetime of the show.

Boom Bap Tourism original t-shirt. Simple and beautiful... like so many Japanese-made things (though this won't be made by Japanese, per se). Oh, plus you'll get funding credit for the lifetime of the show.

  • Pledge $100 or more

This is the good one. 1) The funding credit, 2) the CD soundtrack, AND 3) the t-shirt!

For the super benefactor: 1) The CD soundtrack, 2) the t-shirt, 3) the funding credit, and 4) check this out: original piece of rhyme-poetry written for/about you. That's right. I'll interview you (and probably look through some of your stuff), maybe get some good stories (dirt) from friends and family, and spend some time sculpting it into something funny, dope, deep, and great at your next party. Or roast. Oh man, this sounds so fun... I might just do this even if you don't contribute at this level...
