Out in the Open will work to reach members of the LGBTQ community worldwide who have experienced ostracism, bullying, separation of family and loved ones.

Out In The Open will, for once and for all, destroy the misconceptions, fears, and myths about the LGBTQ community. This documentary is aimed for at risk youth across the world, as well as their families, friends, and teachers. Out in the Open presents that no single person is the same and that all people should be celebrated.
Out in the Open interviews celebrities, politicians, and everyday allies, straight and gay, who openly celebrate the LGBTQ community. These figures will discuss how they coped with stereotypes attached to their sexual orientation by sharing personal experiences of coming to terms with their sexuality. Out in the Open will also starr actor and director Matthew Smith, who decided to stop hiding his life as a happy, stable gay man for fear of losing acting jobs. Unexpected closed doors soon followed his coming out. Matthew and his partners at Real Stream Productions show on film, once and for all, the uplifting and incredible world of the LGBTQ family.
Out in the Open brings you real stories of true equality that will leave you inspired.

A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR
Out in the Open began during Pride Week 2010 in Los Angeles, California as a way to prove to people that the LGBT community is not the way it has been portrayed to the rest of the world. I remember sitting in my hotel room watching tv and thinking to myself "I'm so boring and normal! These stereotypes about the LGBTQ community is bogus, why doesn't anyone know this?" Since then, Out in the Open has taken on a life of its own, blossoming into beautiful true life stories that will leave you inspired to be out and be open.

MATTHEW SMITH, CEO, Co-Founder, Director & Executive Producer
Matthew Smith is one of the very few so-called “new wave” people in entertainment. An actor, producer, writer, speaker, and activist, he is an extremely well known up-and-coming force in the entertainment industry. He is the CEO and co-founder of Real Stream Productions. Appearing in over thirty-four Broadway productions since the age of nine, then moving on to film and television in Hollywood, Smith has seen all sides of the power of media and communications. Smith’s passion for acting came from a deep desire to connect with audiences worldwide.
Smith took Hollywood by storm in early 2005, and has appeared in some of the highest rated television shows in the past ten years. He is best known for his appearances on Nickelodeon and The Disney Channel, with his appearances ranking among some of the most viewed of all time, reaching close to a billion people worldwide. Smith has also been featured on NBC, CBS, FOX, and ABC networks appearing on hit television shows “Drake and Josh”, “Zoey 101”, The CW’s “Kamen Rider”, “Cold Case” on CBS, M. Night Shamalayan’s hit film “Unbreakable”, “Wizards of Waverly Place”, and appears in various independent films and commercials.
Smith is also an advocate for human rights issues, utilizing both media and on the ground connection to create a true global network that encourages people to help their neighbors. He is an award-winning speaker, and has spoken in front of thousands, encouraging people to see the power of connecting together. He was the keynote speaker, along with his non- profit organization Project Gulf Impact, at Netroots Nation 2010 in Las Vegas, and spent much of 2010 and 2011 traveling the country to speak.
Smith’s passion led him in developing the vision for the non-profit documentary film, MC252, which aims to give the people in the Gulf of Mexico a voice both during and after the Deepwater Horizon catastrophe. As CEO of Real Stream Productions, Smith has directed and produced MC252.
Smith was the first Disney Channel celebrity to recognize himself as a gay man publicly, drawing attention and support from such multi-national organizations as GLAAD, Lifeworks, Outfest, and The Trevor Project. He is one of the few “under 25’s” to provide support and encouragement to LGBTQ community.
SCOTT UPSTON, Head of Production
Scott’s passion for filmmaking began from childhood. His first reel consists of highlights of his own baseball games that he edited together using footage that his father shot. After graduating from high school his work in theatre attracted him further to the world of television and theatre.
He began producing short films while in film school and at one point, after being so overloaded with all of the projects he took on, he was told he was going to crash and burn by one of his teachers, but he saw each project through to their completion. He received his B.S. in Film Technology from the Los Angeles Film School.
Post graduation, Scott pursued his passion towards producing by managing script development and project management for Jonathan D. Krane, while also practicing the art of assistant directing on the side.
Scott joined Real Stream Productions in 2010 as Head of Production utilizing his knowledge to oversee both the feature film and television departments.
Benjamin Milliken was born in Manchester, England and raised in Australia's Bilgola Beach located on Sydney's northern beaches. Before pursuing a career in film and television, Ben was an amateur boxer for 10 years. Exploring his love for film, Ben studied 3 years at the leading film and television school, On Camera Studio, in Australia. Ben began landing roles in television, short films and theatre shortly after starring in the independent feature film, “Newcastle,” which made its world premiere at the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival. In 2008, Ben signed with William Morris Agency and moved to Los Angeles where he began acting in film and television, including roles on “Melrose Place” (CW) and “Gigantic” (Teen Nick) as well as parts in “CSI-Miami” (CBS) and was the male lead in TV movie, “Deadly Sibling Rivalry” (Lifetime). He also played the lead male role in “Blue Crush 2” (Universal pictures). Ben’s passion for storytelling and filmmaking led him to Real Stream Productions where he quickly transitioned to a producer.
