Helping our youth be "in the world but not of the world", this album is a collection of pop-rock music promoting timeless values.

Music is a gift from God - it has such great power and influence.  Music can offer encouragement, refuge, and solace. It can stir emotions and passions, strengthen memories, and provide enjoyable entertainment.  It helps us to connect with others - with the ability to help us gain empathy and understanding and increase our love.   Music has the power - for better or for worse - to influence our political, social, and religious beliefs, impact our values, and influence our actions.

Perhaps more than any other demographic group, teens are particularly influenced by music. It is a key part of defining who they are,  can influence what "crowd" they associate with, and impact how they speak, act, and dress.

In the war raging for the hearts, minds, and souls of our youth, music and other media is being used as a powerful weapon against traditional Christian values.  Particularly concerning is the increasing assault on our young women - the outright mockery of virtue and chastity, the promotion of immodest clothing, speech, and actions, and other degrading and demoralizing messages that seek to stain their souls and devalue their divine nature.

OF PRECIOUS VALUE is an effort to provide our youth with more "current" sounding music that is respectful and worthy of their divine nature.  Our youth should not need to lower their standards in order to enjoy popular sounding music!

This project focuses on 8 core values that are emphasized within the official Young Women's program of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints:

  • Faith
  • Divine Nature
  • Individual Worth
  • Knowledge
  • Choice & Accountability
  • Good Works
  • Integrity
  • Virtue

These values and concepts encompass many other values and character traits that all people of faith can and should embrace.

This album project includes songs that promote, address, or typify each individual value.  Melodies are catchy, fun, and inspiring.  Musically, the project aims to have a good range of current sounding pop/rock, like you might expect to hear on the radio from popular artists.  In fact, some of the music you've heard in this video is a rough draft for music that will ultimately be on the album.

These songs are not just songs written by adults to "preach" to the youth - these are messages from the youth to other youth!  Young women are involved in the songwriting and production, will be singing the songs, and will even be playing some of the instruments.  This message will connect with the youth because it is coming in part from the youth.  The music and lyrics are both being created in a way to help our youth be "IN THE WORLD, BUT NOT OF THE WORLD".  This is not music that will simply be listened to on Sunday or for special occasions - this music will be the type that youth will want to keep in heavy rotation on their iPods!

Jenessa (14)  in a recording session for a recent album project. Jenessa is one of the key figures in helping to bring this project to life. In fact, her poetry  has not only helped to inspire some of the songs on this album, it played a role in inspiring the entire project concept.

In addition to an album of great music, as part of this project we are striving to create an online community where young women, their leaders, and their parents can share their testimonies and inspiring stories, get suggestions for youth/young women activities relating to music and media, discover more new music and other resources, and be uplifted with a positive message.  A dedicated website is being planned and will be up prior to release.  Your photo and your story could be included, see the FAQ section for details!

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED to complete this project. A great deal of time and resources is required to complete this project at the level of quality that it deserves.  Even though we are able to do an enormous amount of the production for this album ourselves, the cost of production, advertising, duplication, website creation, and other needs is extremely significant. Without your support, this project will not be possible.  The fundraising goal is the absolute minimum we must raise through donations and advance sales. Your support will help us reach thousands of youth, and ensure that you will be among the first people to own this powerful, positive music.   Please consider not only purchasing a copy for yourself or your youth, but please also consider donating copies to your local young women's church group.  I have felt the hand of God in this work and I bear my testimony to you that I know that this music will have a positive impact on our youth, and create opportunities to share the gospel of Jesus Christ.

SPECIAL NOTICE FOR MUSICIANS/ARTISTS/PHOTOGRAPHERS:  We are planning to feature possibly up to 4 bonus songs in addition to the 8 value specific songs.  This is a wonderful opportunity to introduce your talent to your target audience, and gain a great deal of exposure for your original music.  If you would like to be considered for this project, please contact Matt Mylroie through this page for full details or refer to the FAQ section.  This invitation is open to youth and adults both.

We will be taking a similar approach with album art and the CD design.  Unlike the music, this invitation is only open to youth ages 12-18.  Please see the FAQ section for more details.

This project is not created, endorsed, funded, or distributed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and we are not implying any endorsement from them. This project is, however,  being created by active members of the LDS Church, and we do believe that it will be "Of Precious Value" for both LDS members and for members of other Christian denominations.

FAQ

  • Check the blue "Updates" tab near the top, and you'll find misc updates and samples

  • We anticipate releasing the album in early to mid May, with the first single being released 4 to 6 weeks prior to that.  If there are any changes to this timeline, our supporters will be the first people we notify.

  • If we receive generous support through advance sales and donations, then we'll be able to afford to do this project the right way, and we'll get the results we want because your support will help give us the resources we need to launch such a large, independent project.

Producer Matt Mylroie has been involved with music for over 23 years, including nearly 20 years working with recording.  He studied music at Utah State University and has performed as an artist himself both in groups and as a solo artist.  He studied recording with an award winning engineer, and has contributed his talents to numerous projects with artists from around the country.  Music is one of his great passions in life, and he has a discerning ear for recognizing talent and a knack for understanding how to make music that connects.  With a reputation for being honest and objective, Matt would simply not commit to this project if he didn't fully believe in his abilities to deliver it.  Matt has also surrounded himself with talented colleagues who he utilizes as needed in order to get the best results.

Check out the comments from past customers at www.driftwoodtidemusic.com , these are just a small sampling of the many positive comments he has received.

Unfortunately, at this early stage of production there are no finished works to share with you, as we are just now beginning the recording in earnest.  We'll share samples of music and singing periodically as we go though, as part of our updates to our supporters.   Some of the music you just heard in the kickstarter promo video is a rough draft of music that is slated for this project.   You can expect a range of pop/rock music that is clearly influenced by artists such as Kelly Clarkson, One Republic, Colbie Caillait, and others.

If you are "on the fence" I would ask for your faith, and for you to commit to a single copy of the album. As the project develops, we will share more samples of the work with you, and you can always increase your level of support at a later date.

  • We are expecting to include 3 or possibly 4 bonus songs on the album, to compliment the project and help showcase other artists making quality music. The producer will likely select 1-2 songs himself, and then all people who donate or pre-order music will be able to vote to fill the other 1-2 spaces available.

To be considered for inclusion, you must first be supporting this project.  This is because we are trying to show our appreciation and support for those who are doing the same for us.  Once you have signed up as a project backer, you can contact me through kickstarter.com to express your interest -  ideally, you'll send me a link to where I can listen to your song online.  However, if you do not have your music posted online for whatever reason, I will provide instructions for you to email an MP3 to me.

If you do not have a finished track or demo, please see the other FAQ for guidance on these issues. If your work makes it past our producer's initial cut, we'll ask you to sign a release to use your work before we put it to a vote. If selected, you will receive proper credit on the album, website, and other places as appropriate.

You will not receive any financial compensation, this is purely an opportunity to gain exposure to your work, and considering the albums potential, we expect this to be a significant opportunity that will far outweigh any mechanical royalties you may be forgoing.  However, we will make sure you receive proper credit, will refer you to others, will consider working with you on future projects, and will do anything else that we can to support you.

Please keep in mind that we'll want unmastered music if possible, so that it can be mastered with the rest of the album at the same time for best results.  Driftwood Tide Music will arrange for mastering and there will be no charge to you for that.

If your song is not complete or is not deemed to be of production quality "as is", you will be notified of this prior to any decision making or voting. Please see the additional FAQ about unfinished or lower quality music for more guidance and information.

  • For every song that is submitted for consideration, the producer and/or artists will review the song for a number of factors, one of which is production quality.  While recording your song in a fancy, expensive studio is certainly not necessary, we do want to only include bonus tracks that are well recorded and produced to commercial expectations.

IF YOUR SONG HAS ALREADY BEEN RECORDED:  We will contact you with feedback. If we feel that there is anything that would prevent it from being of sufficient quality we will provide specific feedback and recommendations to you. If your song does make the final cut and is voted on, it will need to be raised to an acceptable quality level. This could mean simply remixing the song, re-recording a part or two to improve it, or it could mean starting over completely.  We'll be honest and up front with you, and provide you feedback that is constructive, not critical.

IF YOUR RECORDING IS JUST A "DEMO":  We will contact you with feedback and recommendations for how to turn your demo into the best possible final product it can be.   Some demo recordings may be perfectly fine once they go through the mastering phase, and may not need to be redone at all.  We'll be honest and up front with you, and provide feedback that is constructive, not critical.

IF YOU HAVE NO RECORDING AT ALL:  We will be happy to listen to you singing on our voicemail, watching a video clip of you singing, or whatever it takes for you to communicate your song to us.  If it has real potential, we'll certainly consider it and will give you recommendations. BUT - please keep in mind that we expect to be releasing the album in around 3 months or slightly longer, so if you have nothing but a rough idea, you'll need to move quickly.  At a minimum, if your song makes it past the first cut and goes to the voting round, then we'll at least need a workable demo by that time.  Keep in mind - this doesn't need to be a huge production, a vocal with a single instrument accompanying it can sometimes be as good or better than a complex, expensive arrangement.

HOW CAN DRIFTWOOD TIDE MUSIC HELP WITH MY PRODUCTION AND RECORDING ISSUES?  If your recording is not quite up to par, your demo tape needs to be made into a final product, or you simply are starting from scratch, then you have work to do!  We want to help - its why we are in business! But, the reality is that as the release of this album draws near, we will be putting a significant amount of our time and resources into completing the production of the 8 core songs and handling all of the marketing and administrative aspects of the project as well, so we may instead offer you referrals to engineers and studios that we know and trust. Unlike the mastering cost, which will be included on any songs filling the bonus slots, any other production work will be your financial responsibility.  If your song made it into one of the bonus track slots and you are doing work on the project with another studio, we'll be happy to speak with the engineer to help make sure that the finished track turns out as needed. If you simply need your final master remixed, you will need to provide the original multi-track recordings. If you can provide the tracks as a Pro Tools session or as separate digital audio files with sync'd start times, Driftwood Tide Music would be happy to give you a quote.  Otherwise, we'll refer you to another studio or engineer. If you have a rough demo and need to convert that idea into a finished master, or if you are starting your song from scratch, then we will be happy to spend some time helping you visualize what the final mix should sound like and provide recommendations on how to get there.   In this type of a situation, there is a good chance we'll probably recommend you to another producer or engineer who can work with you to quickly complete your project. However, if we have enough available studio time, we'll be happy to provide you a quote as well.I want to emphasize that you do NOT need to necessarily go to a fancy studio and spend a lot of money.  Any recording that is well done, well mixed, and well arranged may be sufficient for the album project.  We will provide feedback on EVERY song that is submitted, and if nothing is needed other than mastering, we'll let you know that!

  • First, you have to be supporting the project in order to be considered. We are trying to show our appreciation for your support, by in turn supporting you. Once you have signed up as a project backer, you can contact me through kickstarter.com to express your interest -  ideally you will include a link to where I can view your work online, as opposed to sending me large files.  Your photo or artwork should compliment or enhance the theme of the album project.   If your work makes it past our producer's initial cut, we'll ask you to sign a release to use your work before we put it to a vote. If selected, you will receive proper credit on the album, website, and other places as appropriate. You will not receive any financial compensation, this is purely an opportunity to gain exposure to your work.  However, we will make sure you receive proper credit, will refer you to others, will consider working with you on future projects, and will do anything else that we can to support you.  Please keep in mind that your photo or artwork may only make up a portion of the cover art or CD design, and may require modification, such as text overlays, cropping, and other common graphics adjustments in order to make it suitable for release in this format.

  • More soundbites should be available next month, including clips with vocals. We'll post these as a public update on the project. Please just keep in mind that samples that are posted prior to probably the first of April are going to simply be rough drafts or incomplete tracks.

  • First - make sure your work is of good quality.  Second - the more it relates to the audience and the theme of the project, the more likely the odds of getting selected.  Third - Youth may receive preference over adults (this only applies to music as artwork/photos are only being accepted from youth).  Finally, if your work is presented for a vote - work hard to get out the vote. The only way to vote is to make an advance purchase or donation to the project. So, for every friend, family member, and fan of yours that pre-orders or donates, they'll be given the opportunity to vote.  It only takes $2 to pre-order the first track, get access to the behind-the-scenes info and updates, and get the opportunity to vote.  Voting will help insure that we are giving the audience what they want, and it also will help drive awareness and support for the project as a whole, plus for your creative works!

  • We hope to soon begin work on a new permanent website for Driftwood Tide Music and also a site dedicated for this project.  We are still in the planning phase on that, so we don't expect that we'll have a dedicated website up until around the time we are releasing the first single.  First and foremost, this will be a place to promote and distribute  this album project.   We also hope to use this site as a place to share stories, photos, and testimonies of our youth, with an emphasis on the building strong values and on music and media.   We also hope to help you discover good media from other artists, and help consolidate some resources relating to strong values and music and the media.  We may also use this site as a place to showcase worthy art, music, and media created by and for the youth. As you can see, we have big ideas!  If you have a story, testimony, or photo to share, you can contact me through this site for instructions on how to send it to me.  We'll include as many of the photos, stories and testimonies  as we can.  Testimonies, stories, etc should focus on the importance of strong values,  or on music and other media.

  • No and No!

As noted before - this project is not created, endorsed, funded, or distributed by or through The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and we are not implying any endorsement from the church, church leaders, or church programs.

We are active members of the LDS faith though, and we do strongly believe in and support the standards and values taught by Christ, and through the church. We believe it is our responsibility to use our talents to provide positive and uplifting music and media.  We fully believe and expect that members of the LDS faith will enjoy not only using this music as a way to enrich their personal lives, but we also believe that in appropriate settings and uses, youth leaders will find this album as another useful tool in helping to uplift our youth and reinforce basic gospel principles.

While we appreciate the great support from LDS members, we want to remind them that the use of official LDS church resources, contacts, and so forth should not be used to promote commercial works - so please share this album project with your friends, neighbors, family members, and so forth, but please don't use your church mailing lists, contacts, etc as a way to help spread the word of this project. Those contacts should be used for official church business only.

We also believe that Christians of other denominations will embrace this music in a similar fashion, for use with their youth programs, praise bands, and more, and we are delighted to be able to share the common ground that we have in our Christian beliefs.
