HomeGrown Theater's upcoming production, Qui Nguyen's high-octane horror/comedy with Shakespearean zombies "Living Dead in Denmark."

About "Living Dead in Denmark"
Imagine your favorite kung-fu film. Now imagine your favorite action-adventure video games. Now imagine lo-fi, strong beats, crunchy guitars like The Black Keys or the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Lastly, blend them all together and put them on steriods and a rollar coaster at the same time. You may come up with something like "Living Dead in Denmark," a new play by Qui Nguyen. Set five years after the tragic events that ended Shakespeare’s Hamlet, a resurrected Ophelia, Juliet, and Lady MacBeth must save Denmark from an overwhelming horde of zombies, while dealing with loneliness and abandonment in an unknown world.
Starring: Erin Chancer, Edie Grace Dull, Christy Rolfe, Declan Kempe, Jaime Nebeker, Ryan Michael Black, Leah Reynolds, David Cowen, Lucy McCall, Noah Moody, and Janessa White.

This is the kind of theatre that looks impossible. That is why this project is so exciting for us.
With your support we will be able to build costumes, a set, props, rent lighting equipment, train actors at martial arts, market, and other necessities required to build a show. We have the ability to make this possible, but lack the funds required to pull it all together. Every donation counts to help build a more artistically diverse community in Boise. The kickstarter won't fund 100% of this project, but it will drastically help us get closer to the $1,500 required to build this very unique production. Below is the breakdown of the money we need to raise:
Set: $375 (to help set the scene in post-apocolyptic Europe)
Costumes: $375 (for zombies and militaristic warriors alike)
Props: $150 (swords, knives, and Lady M's battle ax)
Lighting rentals: $300 (will include several lights and a board)
Press Printing: $100 (posters and flyers)
Fight Choreography: $100 (Professional martial arts choreography to help authenticate the production)
Other: $100 (For the unexpected surprises that arise when it comes to building a production)
GRAND TOTAL: $1,500

About HomeGrown Theater
Our goal is to make theatre accessible to a new generation of audiences. We understand that there are young people in Boise who desire theatre but have no other venue for it. We are young professional artists creating exciting theatre for audiences just like us, and beyond.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Building a collaborative project of this scale can be quite the task. It takes the right recipe of creative, supportive, and organized thinkers to come together to create a unified production. However, we have onboard this production, the most exciting group of artists and designers we've ever worked with.
One of my favorite undergrad professors would describe the "honest deadline" that we work with in theatre which is unique to any other medium. We are working towards an opening night (January 17th!) and therefore have the constant pressure of getting the necessary work done, the constant image of the incessant hourglass pouring down the sand. Our limitations fuel our imaginations, as we explore exciting, creative new ways to tell our story that will thrill our audience.
