I want to print a 100 page comic book, in full color, and have at least 1000 copies. Also, I want it to be ready in June 2013 for The Chicago Alternative Comics Expo, called "CAKE." After it's debut I want distribute it across the country and do performative comic readings for it. I have a short time frame between now and CAKE in June 2013, which is my deadline for the book. Currently only of a fraction of it is done. If I don't get funding for the book, I wont have enough free time to focus on it and the run of 1000 color books won't happen. It could take up to a year for the project to be completed if this doesn't work out.
WHAT IS $5,666 PAYING FOR?
First of all, I've been drawing, printing and distributing my comics for the past 10 years, and I've never had a comic book printed in color. Why? because it cost a lot of money to print in color. If you do research you'll see that you can spend as much as you want. Ka-blam.com is around $10,000 for 1000, 85 page, color books, and LULU.com is even more. I found a really cheap bulk printer that will do the job. So in the grand scheme of things $5,666 is not that much money for color printing.
Also, kickstarter and the affiliated payment sites take about 10% of the funded goal. Then I have to pay for the prizes (T-Shirts, Stickers, Posters, Patches) plus the shipping for it. And one thing that is very important to me is to pay Monica Gunderson for filming and editing my video, which took her a week and a half.

I'm 29 and a lot of 20 something people have certain goals before they turn 30. Mine is to have a graphic novel printed in color and have it widely distributed. Also, learning how to skateboard is one of my goals too.

yes, I upgraded all the prizes from their original status. I wasn't able to change the prizes that people already donated to. so I just made new prizes show up 1 dollar bellow the old ones. for example. i added "sticker 4 pack" to $24 so people who donated $25 will get it. if that makes sense. so you don't have to change your pledge a dollar lower to get the updated prize. you're already getting it.
