Great opportunity and partially funded fellowship to attend residency at the Vermont Studio Center this fall continuing encaustic study
Beautiful Fall + Falling Leaves of Color + Colorful Creative Exploration
I am very excited to be participating in a 4-week residency program at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, VT in September. I cannot think of a more beautiful time of the year to be there or a better opportunity afforded me by the Center. It is my second residency but it is the first that has extended me a partial fellowship and work grant. I spend much of time actively involved in the arts community and outreach projects in Charlotte, NC and my time in Vermont will give me the opportunity to reflect and refocus.
My goal is to use the time to explore drawing and printing techniques using encaustic as my medium of choice. Most importantly my creative thrust during this residency will be to generate a large body of "ideas" without a particular structure or plan (i.e. for a show or exhibition). I plan to transform my creative process into a much more liberating frame of reference and use that material as a launching pad to begin a new body of work. I just want to immerse myself into making art.
In order to help fund the project, I have already reduced the cost of the residency through a work exchange program with the Vermont Studio Center. In addition they have offered me a partial fellowship. The money I raise on Kickstarter will go towards the remaining residency fees, travel expenses, shipping costs, documentation, and materials. Any extra money I raise will go towards living expenses and supplies.
I've put together a variety of rewards for backers, consisting of original artwork by me; however in addition I plan on keeping a blog of my experience with photos, studio shots, writings and a list of everyone who generously sponsored my experience.
