Volume III of SENTENCES will feature prose & poetry by the inmates of the Garner Correctional Institution.
SENTENCES Volume III will feature prose & poetry by the inmates of the Garner Correctional Institution, a maximum-security prison in Newtown, CT. For 3 years editor Chris Belden has observed these hardened criminals change & grow as a result of education, self-discipline, & creativity. Virtually all studies show that recidivism rates decrease dramatically the more inmates are exposed to educational opportunities. Please support this important project. All donations go toward the printing & distribution of SENTENCES.
Here's a poem by Dwayne:
What Happens When You Go to Jail?
Do you dream that you was free?
When your door pops
you open your eyes to reality.
You sit at the table
to eat from a five-slot dish
filled with fried fish
and grits, what a wish.
Do you go to the gym to ball
or just stay in your cell
to look at the wall,
hoping this one day would end
so I can put down this pen.
