About this project
We beat our goal! Thank you guys so much for all of your support, seriously. To see everyone who believes in the project is really special to us, so thank you for reaching out and offering your donations. As for other news:
Our official release date for the new album "Little Wind" will be August 30th. With a show to celebrate it's release at First Avenue Main Room on September 16th, with our friends Dark Dark Dark and Daredevil Christopher Wright. Mark that date off with red tape in your calendars because, to be quite frank with you, we're scared shitless. When that day comes, we really need all of our fans to march down the streets and the alley ways of Minneapolis and break down First Avenue's Door. Maybe I'm fantasizing now, maybe it won't be quite like that. Or will it? The choice is yours.....

Hey Guys;;;
We have been working tirelessly for the past eight months writing, arranging, recording, and producing our second full-length studio record, “Little Wind”. It’s taken a long time as we meticulously developed the record, considering every song and every word. We’re excited about the shift in our music and how it has developed into a more mature mixture of the familiar folk-pop melodies with a new taste of washed out tones and guitar ambiance; we’re just bursting at the seams to get this doggie out there and into your ear buds.
We are proud to release what (we think) will be our greatest album to date and we are asking our supporters to help us print and promote it. This coming fall/winter we will be visiting all corners of the country and want to hire print and radio promotions so we can share our music with as many people possible in each city. Along with promotions, we will be using the funding to press the record onto compact disc and on to vinyl (oh man, we’re so psyched for that one).
Everyone asks us, “dudes, why not get on a label so you don’t have to worry about all of this financial hooplah?” Well, we did shop it a bit, but in the end we collectively felt a bit uncomfortable giving away this album- I mean it’s our pride and joy and we are so ridiculously attached to it, we could never even conceive the notion of it not being our own. We’ve gotten this far on our own eight feet, so we’ve decided to see this record through until the end, then we can take a deep breath, do a slow clap, and move on to our next endeavor. That said, we need your help because without all of your gracious contributions, we won’t be able to do it.
As a token of our gratitude, we’re offering some pretty slick deals exclusively through Kickstarter. This will be the only spot that “Little Wind” will be available for presale, along with customized t-shirts, posters hand screen-printed by LandLand, and other pretty far out rewards. We thank you all so much for your time and any contributions you can make. We are so excited to show all of you what has been driving us crazy for the past two years; we’re preeeeetty sure you’re gonna like it.
We appreciate everyone’s support and consideration. We feel extremely fortunate to get to wake up everyday and do what we love to do the most; we could never be able to do it with out all of you so thank you all, so very very much.
We out.

Artist Information
Biography
Since her arrival in Minneapolis during the fall of 2006 as an 18-year-old, singer/songwriter, Caroline Smith has become a celebrated part of the Midwest artist community.
Her career began as a solo artist with a residency at Minneapolis' 400 Bar, a once reputable venue pivotal in shaping the careers of Elliot Smith, Conor Oberst, and local hero, Mason Jennings who less than a decade before began his own career with the same residency. Here she developed an independent sound which continues to be characterized by simple chord structures supporting sweet pop vocal melodies. Most recognizable in her music and the defining quality to her success is her alto singing voice quivering through vibrato, classic and controlled with the presence of Billy Holiday, Leslie Feist, and Joanna Newsom.
In 2007, Smith befriended drummer Arlen Peiffer (Cloud Cult), bassist Jesse Schuster, and multi-instrumentalist Colin Hacklander and the boys joined forces to support Caroline's folk tunes as the Goodnight Sleeps.
In August of 2008, Caroline Smith and the Goodnight Sleeps released their debut full length, Backyard Tent Set, recorded at the Devil's Workshop in Minneapolis with Chad Weiss (Mason Jennings, Ben Kweller). The prominent sound is of gentle folk instrumentation- acoustic guitar, banjo, piano, glockenspiel while Caroline's singing floats above in innocent and playful imagery and catchy pop hooks. This independently released LP has made major waves online, on air, and on tour. 7 national tours and constant circuit through the Midwest has garnered a commited following of audiences around the US.
In 2010 in celebration of several years of successful touring, Caroline and Goodnight Sleeps bassist, Jesse Schuster recorded live duo arrangements rooted in folk tradition. The limited addition Live at the Cedar [Cultural Center] was met with enthusiastic acclaim from fans around the states, and within 6 months of its release the disc was completely sold out.
Most recently, Caroline Smith and company have completed tracking a new full length at the Terrarium in Minneapolis with Jason Orris (Polara, Happy Apple, Haley Bonar) and the songs are currently being mixed with Tom Herbers (Low, Dark Dark Dark, Andrew Bird). The yet untitled full length expands upon Backyard Tent Set's story-telling whimsy, but shifts its foundation from the simplicities of folk to greater nuances of musical arrangement and soundscape rooted in modern indie rock. Loyal to the heart of Smith's sound, Caroline's unforgettable and endearing pop melodies remain the proudest strength of the record.
The record will find itself in your CD player in mid August, 2011.
