Update #1: Obscurae Show 2009
On September 19, 2009, we successfully pulled off the Obscurae Photo Show and Lottery. Starting at 7pm Braddock supporters and photo enthusiasts came out to UnSmoke Systems Artspace and joined us in celebrating some of the amazing activities taking place in Braddock.
Photographs in the Obscurae collection (http://obscuraegallery.org/gallery/) explore the hidden beauty of the town in its details, and for the show each photograph was paired with a one-of-a-kind, handmade frame. These frames were re-purposed from former window frames, window panes, kitchen doors, fan blades, tables, chairs, garage doors, door frames, wall paper, cabinet doors, tin ceiling tiles, metal bits, old handles, molding, and more materials collected from sources all over town.
Not only was Obscurae’s photography exhibition free and open to the public, it was also lots of fun thanks to so many great collaborators! Jake Liefer of the Pittsburgh Area Coffee Association set up a coffee bar at the event. John Ryan Brubaker installed a traveling version of his Portrait Booth Project so we could travel back in time with quirky portraits shot with a 1968 Polaroid on instant black and white film. Beer and wine were donated for the event. And the fresh sweet and savory wood-fired treats from Braddock’s own community oven were amazing.
Thank you to everyone who attended, participated, and supported this event!
