The Adventures of Alphaman!!!

The Adventures of Alphaman is an episodic comic book arcade game for iOS and Android. The game is divided into issues; each issue will feature multiple games and story panels.

The games draw a lot from classic arcade and console games, but with a comic book story and cartoon graphics.  Each game will offer a different gameplay experience.  For example, one game plays like Robotron, while another is closer to Canabalt. There will be story panels connecting the games, but we have tried to tell as much of the story as possible through gameplay itself.

The artwork is being done in a simple bright colorful cartoon style.  All the music comes from musicals written by Carl.  We went over his back catalog of hundreds of tracks to find the perfect music to match each game.

We plan on making many issues and releasing them on a regular schedule, but for now we are starting with just the first two.  We also plan on eventually releasing the game for other platforms, but the game will start out being available for iOS and Android.  The first issue will be free and all issues after that will be 99 cent in-app purchases.  We plan on releasing the first two issues sometime in November.

Alpha Tester:

We want to involve the Kickstarter community in the development process and get as much feedback as we can before we launch the game.  We were thinking of having a beta test, but we wanted to get the community involved as early as possible.  It seemed only natural to have an alpha test.

Testers will be able to test all 8 games individually as they are being developed.  Once we complete all the games it will transition into a more standard beta test period.  If the game is successful and we start working on more issues, anyone who signs up for this will also be able to alpha test all our future issues.  Testers will have access to a forum to discuss the games and give us feedback.  There will also be OpenFeint leaderboards for the games allowing testers to compete against each other for high scores.

What's the money for?

Most of the cost of development thus far has been our own time, but we still have a few expenses to get the game off the ground:  

• Licenses (iOS/Android Market)
• Devices (namely we want an Android device for development)
• Incorporation Fees
• Marketing (especially right after launch) 
• Miscellaneous (web hosting, business cards, etc) 

The more we raise, the better we can make the game.  Extra funds will allow us to be able to spend more time on the project leading up to the launch and for its subsequent promotion.  If we raise significantly more than our goal we can start making the third and fourth issues much earlier and release the game for other platforms sooner.
