About this project
Cakeland is an art installation. Cakeland is also a refuge of beauty, emotional experience and safe fantasy. Everyone has a relationship to cake, in the form of memories around family, marriage, birthdays and celebration. Using the theme of cake, I draw you into my sculptures and installations with the promise and expectation of familiar relation. Yet in experiencing Cakeland, you are faced with unexpected challenges; as in life, it takes patience and determination to win your reward. I guarantee, however, that you won't have to work too hard, because Cakeland, before all else, is a place of joy.
For this version of Cakeland I am aiming for about 60 full length mirrors, cake chandeliers, theatrical lighting, moving parts and sound to make the most stunningly beautiful and lush mirror maze and art installation you will ever see. It will take about 3 months to manufacture. It will then travel to various art venues (galleries, museums) across the US and beyond.
Cakeland also does not exist without the support of people like you. As you can see in this proposal, I have a number of deluxe incentive gifts for all levels of donation.

Scott Hove was born and raised in the San Francisco bay area. He considers himself a primarily self-taught artist.
His work encompasses a broad variety of media, from sculptural installations to painting. These works reflect on the relationship between the natural world and mechanical civilization, and the drama that occurs during this interaction. The materials and techniques borrow from traditional and decorative arts and craft to render the oftentimes jarring objects and fantasy installations.
He lives and works in Oakland.
