A team of high-school students with a passion for rocketry build a micro-H2O2 rocket, pioneering a cleaner and safer form of propulsion
The Premise
Inspired by the film October Sky, this group of New Trier students plan to create the first private, non-coporate rocket that uses clean, safe and renewable fuel sources to reach the stratopause, and one day the moon. Our first launch in mid-June, 2012 will be a multi-staged water/air rocket launch that will test a varity of mechanism including an electronic launch mechanism, a servo-tirggered parachute release system and a stager mechanism.

The Plan
This Kickstarter is for the second rocket which will be propelled by pumping the monopropellant (Hydrogen Peroxide) through a silver catalyst. The rocket will only be a small prototype that we only expect to reach altitudes of a 0.5-2 miles, and with your help, we can move on to larger projects, that fly higher, and faster using cleaner, and safer fuels than H202 (which can be corrosive in concentrations higher that 70%).
The funds raised by the project will be used for a variety of things including:
-80% pure H202 fuel
-A silver decomposition catalyst
-A small furnance so we can cast our own aluminum for the fuselage, boosters and nozzle and nosecone.
-A fuel tank
-A pump/valve system
-Tools (mainly welding equipment)
-Payload (HD cameras, a GPS, and a simple flight computer capable of throttling and braking the H202 engine as well as triggering launch) (most likely an arduino)
-Polyethylene lining for the fuselage
-Rewards and Fees
