Update #11: Making Faces DVD shipped to Kickstarter Backers

Posted on April 25, 2011

Hello Kickstarter backers!

The DVDs have all been shipped to you. I hope you like the end result. If it hasn't arrived yet, it should very soon. We also included a new chapbook style specimen book of all of Jim Rimmer's digital fonts. The Stern Specimen that is included is not included in the general DVD now for sale since we have all but run out of them.

Your support made this project finally happen and for that we are eternally grateful.

As you may know another project  I am involved in (WNY Book Arts Center, a 501 c 3 non profit org) also has used kickstarter and we have a new one:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/565689766/getting-woodtype We keep applying for funding and writing brilliant grant proposals for public and private funding, and even though we keep getting kicked back we must endure and seek other methods of funding. Things are tough all over. We know we are making progress, but upkeep of a building and non stop programming is taking most of our limited resources. We hope you can help with this new project and get yourself some nice limited edition woodtype specimen sheets printed by Richard Kegler, Chris Fritton and the WNYBAC team of printers. We see it as a win-win. Epic Win!

Thanks again for past, present, and future support of the printing and typographic arts RK

Update #10: DVD update and related project

Posted on February 13, 2011

The DVD bonus features and menu final touches are almost ready. Once DVDs are pressed they will be sent right out to you, the kickstarter backers, before they go anywhere else. Thank you for your patience on this, It truly could not have been done without your help.

I thought you may also be interested in a related project. The CC Stern foundry in Portland (who were donated the Stern Matrices by Jim Rimmer) has started their own Kickstarter project:

Please check out what they are doing to help keep metal type alive!

Update #3: Initial Screening in Berlin & 100 backers!

Posted on May 27, 2010

Thank you...all 100 of you!
The show of support on this project has been overwhelming.

A 30 minute first edit of this was shown in Berlin last week at TypoBerlin
http://www.typoberlin.de/2010/index.php/Richard+Keglerbr+;21.21/2
I hope to have an uploaded version that backers can see and comment on, but size limitations on kickstarter will make it tricky. I prefer not to post the work in progress on general websites.

Feedback was positive and the general feeling from talking with people before and after the conference is that letterpress has not taken off in Europe the same way that the revival in North America is. I have had conversations with additional people on helping with various languages for translations of subtitles. Now back to the next round of editing.

best regards
Richard Kegler

Richard, I think Vimeo lets you post with restrictions on who can view a video. Not sure though. Very excited to see the results, but I'm a patient fellow and can wait it out....

Update #2: JIm Rimmer Film Outtake

Posted on April 21, 2010

Things are moving along. A few bumps in the road (my son spilling water on my laptop and completely frying it...but nothing of the film was lost). I have decided to attend the tribute ceremony to Jim in Vancouver April 25th. Perhaps I will meet some of you there.

Until i get further along to a point where i can show work in progress, I thought I would share one of my favorite clips of Jim in an unplanned moment in the filming. It always makes me smile.

Update #1: Jim Rimmer Project Update

Posted on March 21, 2010

Thank you everyone for your support. We have surpassed the goal set on this kickstarter experiment and all funds will go towards making this happen sooner and better than it was looking possible only a week ago. Thank you. Thank you.

It was asked if the drive was over since the goal that was set was reached. Answer is no. It was not clearly stated but we can absolutely make use of additional funds towards making this happen in a better form and adding enhancements like subtitling and a wider potential for screening venues.
      cheers
