About this project

Do you remember the last time you laid on the grass under a sunny blue sky and watched the clouds change shapes? Our project, MyCloud, provides this experience in indoor spaces even as it allows people to shape those clouds with their own hands.

MyCloud is a transformative environment designed to bring the relaxing outdoor experience of sky, cloud and grass into otherwise confined spaces. We hope to help people relax in their homes and office environments by simultaneously invoking childhood memories while activating people’s imagination. To give you a more detailed description of our project, white clouds in a blue sky projected above a green lawn creates a leisure environment that harkens memories of childhood and childhood pastimes. Such warm memories are further enhanced by the cloud pillows lying on the grass, which serve the dual function of comfortable cushioning, and act as controllers for dynamic cloud images in the sky. In short, not only can people watch the clouds float by and take on different shapes, but they actually actively shape the clouds as well. With MyCloud, the imagination that a person can have about clouds is expanded to another level where the clouds respond to people's touch. MyCloud thus allows people to transform their interior spaces by building castles in the air.

As first-year NYU students at ITP (the Interactive Telecommunications Program), we recently started a small art collective, called A Sky Above, whose primary goal is to explore and expand the possibilities of human expression through various emerging technologies. Our interactive piece has been selected to be installed at a digital arts festival in Copenhagen, re-new 2010 and we are super-excited to be part of a festival whose emphasis on the relationship between technology, emotions, and human expressions matches our own interests and passions. We are now in the process of raising funds for re-creating our project at re-new 2010 where we hope to contribute to the exciting and on-going dialogue about the role of technology in human expression.
