Valmont is a town with a fertile history and a vibrant community. We aim to capture the magic in our People's History of Valmont!
Just like people, every place has a story. But not every story is told. For instance, people living in Boulder County may not be aware that the farming community of Valmont exists just east of town, let alone that it is home to a history as rich as its fertile soil.
Now a ghost of its peripheral vision, Valmont was once as promising a settlement as Boulder. It very well may have achieved city-status before Boulder, if its printing press wasn’t stolen in a late-night deal fueled by “fire-whiskey” and jealous competition.
Stories like these are at risk of being lost to dusty shelves and fading memories. Passionate about keeping the stories of this beautiful place and community alive, myself and a group of four other CU students are composing a book of Valmont’s history through direct sources, transcribed oral history interviews, photographs both yellowed and digital, and interspersed with our own creative non-fiction pieces. We’ve been researching, speaking with Valmont community members, working with a local farm, and have begun composing our very own history book.
Now we need your help. In order to print copies of the book, for use in Valmont’s Montessori schools, community centers, and farms, we are asking for $550. Thank you for your help in keeping a community’s history alive. We hope that by printing and distributing a revived history of Valmont, we can offer a tool for the community to preserve their roots and reawaken their story.
