Paintings, based on excursions to the Everglades, Big Cypress, Fakahatchee & other swampland in my home state.
The project is a series of paintings, based on several trips over many years, to the Everglades, Big Cypress and wild areas near where I grew up (Southern Florida). The paintings are based on recollection of specific trips, photographs and memory of the essence of these places (places I fear may vanish). The ultimate idea is to create a series of large oil and watercolor paintings of the part of my home state that means something--not South Beach, not The Miami Arena but Florida as it once was. I am not a naturalist who duplicates photographs. These paintings are to be primitive images, impressions, of the landscape and sometimes the creatures of the area. They will, hopefully, capture more than what is actually visible but the hopes, the myths and more from the area where I spent most of my life. I hope these make you want to go to the Everglades and if you do? Don't toss your garbage on the ground!
I started painting again after a long hiatus--and the Everglades was my inspiration. After working for some time on these paintings I began to feel like I had something. I hope you think so too. This project is in part to raise money for materials but also in part to build a deadline into the project and make it a collaborative effort with those funding.
Part of the point of this Kickstarter campaign is for me to
have a reason to produce art. Sounds odd? To me, while I get producing art for yourself,
or for art's sake, I still believe that the ultimate point is to reach out to
other folks, to disseminate the art.
I couldn't bring myself to produce something I believe unsuitable when it is
made for others. So by helping with this, you are helping me by giving me a
reason to paint beyond myself. I am doing it for YOU. I also enjoy having a
deadline. It brings out creativity.

A LAST minute addition.I remembered something about the smaller oils (the 12x12 ones). I had intended these to be on canvases with larger wooden frames. BUT I realized that at 12x12 I could use the low profile frames--which cost a LOT less. SO if you want an unframed oil, that is less wide!...here you go!
