18 days...
i want to have something interesting to say about that, but a sinus infection has reduced the capacity of my thinking brain to just "chop the dough into 6 oz. portions, roll in ball, and well, whatever happens after that to create pizza crust."
i really wanted to post an update today though, so i am (with author's permission) totally stealing from a blog post my dear old (as in the friendship, not the man) friend Dennis Smalley wrote a few days ago, and an idea from another dear newer friend, Neil Shadle.
as we move toward the close of the second week of the campaign (no, i will never be a politician), it's important to remember why anyone should care about this project. it's not just about a brick oven for a girl to work...it's about a community, a gathering spot, economic development one job at a time, preserving an ancient craft, it's about YOU! this is the time when pledges level off, people in the know have already dived in, and now it's time to get the word out to new eyes, to people who may never see Washington Island, but believe in these things. i wonder if you all would try to pass this on to two friends or colleagues each, that they may either pledge or pass the word on to someone in their network.
Dennis did the hard work in creating a Top Ten List of Reasons to donate to this project :
"PS Top 10 Reasons to donate
10 Gives you a reason to visit Washington Island, to see the oven you helped to build.
9 You would personally be helping to create jobs in Wisconsin, because she will be hiring another person.
8 You would be responsible for taking her bread over the top, maybe the best bread on the planet.
7 You would be helping to pick up Washington Island, due to the fact
that the wood to fire the oven will be coming from trees knocked down in
a storm.
6 Some of us are dreamers, some of us are living our dream, and some
of us try to make other’s dreams come true…. either way, if you donate,
any amount, you will be helping this dreamer, live her dream, by helping
her build the oven.
5 When you are on Washington Island, a visit with Heidi will make you
feel good inside that you made the decision to contribute.
4 If you have been to Door County, a bunch of times, and out of cool
things to do and visit… by donating, it will give you reason to ride the
ferry across Devil’s Door. How cool is that!?
3 Her new oven will increase her output capacity, and just think of all
the wheat, oat, and other grain farmers you will be helping by donating
to her oven. Plow on and plant, Heidi’s oven is going to happen,
thanks to all the people donating.
2 I’m sure that she will name a loaf of bread after you, if you donate
the most money…. Just think… sourdennis or dennisnickel or dennis &
asiago
1 The number one reason is that she is a good person, and good things
happen to good people. Be a part of this good thing and donate any
amount to make her dream come true."
Dennis' list is a good start, and I blush at his kind words, but modify it as you see fit and please pass it on!
Thank you so much for all of your support!
Heidi
