to a completed oven base in FOUR days! wow! the rest of the supplies are here tonight, firebrick and high temperature cement, so if last week was any indication, it won't be a stack of brick for long! follow this link to see the progress of the week. we'll be baking in the brick oven in no time!

we bakers talk about our "mise en place" all the time - it's a French phrase for saying we've got all our tools and ingredients measured out and lined up and we're ready to start our project. i was baking graduation cakes and rolls yesterday, and i walked out and there it was! Kirby the stonemason had his mise on!  he's ready to go as soon as the concrete is cured...thanks to Jonathan Mann and his crew for getting that done last Friday!  here's a picture of all this readiness!

they're digging a hole where the oven will go! tomorrow morning they'll pour the concrete pad upon which the oven will sit.  and then, Kirby will start building! hurrah! thank you all so much. sorry for the absence of updates, we have been very busy settling in to our new quarters. finally this week we have established routines and schedules! so grateful to all of you who have stopped in for bread and conversation, it's really a wonderful location with lots of great energy. it's been nice putting kickstarter backers faces with names too - so nice to meet you and see you all again! come on by and take a peek!
