Hey Dave ... will you be making more videos as you produce these woodblocks? I find myself really enjoying watching the videos you have on YouTube, but there's only a handful of them, and some are so short! I really like the 15-minute long ones like you did showcasing the creation of the Rickshaw Cart. Make more, long videos for us to enjoy, please! :)

Haha - I was also talking to Jed about visiting the studio. I think having the video updates from there makes a lot of us think "I want to go there in person!" My fiancee and I are planning for spring 2014 for our next visit, so we'll talk then. So glad to know you'll still be producing work then!
Re: what Dave said about the 3-dimensional object... That's one of the first things I thought of when I saw this KS... I've been a fan of ukio-e and other traditional art forms for a long time, found whatever I could in books and online and all that, but each time I see a collection in person (one of the first times was the excellent ukio-e collection they have here at the Chicago Art Institute, another was my first visit to the Tokyo National Museum) - I stand there and think to myself "this is the actual *object* - the paper pressed with wood hundreds of years ago" and I'm just amazed. Actually owning such a thing (two such things - an embarrassment of riches!), is terribly exciting.

Is there a way to follow you that's NOT facebook or twitter? I don't use either, but i still want to stay posted. I know about Dave's website-- what about you, Jed?
I will want to sign up for at least two moer prints, and probably more giclees, as soon as my credit balance recovers from the Kickstarter hit. :)
Also, can you tell us who the calligrapher is who did the originals of the cartouche texts?

With regards to the prints-per-woodblock ratio, I think the woodblocks may have seemed like a "better deal" than the prints. With digital wall prints, at some level you're competing against commercially mass-produced prints. $40 is on the expensive side there. A woodblock print is a different category of object; there's nothing to compare the $135 price to.
Without knowing anything about the printing costs or quality level of the giclee print, when I looked at the prices, I really had the impression that this project was mainly "about" selling the woodblocks, and that selling the giclee prints wasn't a big priority.

[Still from Dave ...] Requests like this are now coming in thick and fast, and I'm not quite sure how to handle them. For many years, I have simply said, "Sure, come on over!" to all such requests, but the sheer volume has now made that impossible. Over the next few weeks, the ladies here and I are going to be having a good strong look at our plans for the next year or so, and high up on the things to discuss is the question of how 'public' to make our business - should we open a shop, or keep it a 'closed' workroom, etc.,etc. I have no idea just how the decision will go, but for now can simply say - give us a call when you are over here, and if we can work something out, we will ...
