Kickstarter

S'MAC (short for Sarita's Macaroni & Cheese) was a concept born at the Peanut Butter Co. in New York's Greenwich Village (what better venue for inspiration than another comfort food joint!).  It was created by my husband, Caesar, and I.

While sitting down and savoring our PB & J sandwiches, I casually mentioned to Caesar "Wouldn't it be great if there was a place that served PB & J, Grilled Cheese Sandwiches and...MAC-N-CHEESE?!?! Comfort food galore!"  Both of us laughed (and salivated for some time) and went on our way.  But the idea couldn't be shaken -- well that is, the part about the mac-n-cheese couldn't be shaken.  So we started on an adventure that lead us to the opening of our "baby" S'MAC 9 months later, on June 24th 2006.

S'MAC is the first eatery ever to dedicate its entire menu to macaroni & cheese.  We are located in the heart of Manhattan's East Village.  Our menu is simple yet delicious with a variety of "Specialty MACS" available and a full "Build Your Own" menu.  Since opening our doors in June 2006, we have seen many more mac & cheese concepts sprout up over the country, but S'MAC still continues to increase sales consistently every year.  We are proud to consider ourselves leaders in the mac & cheese restaurant concept and we continue to push the boundaries with what can be done with mac & cheese.  We offer all of our dishes gluten-free and we also have a vegan menu.

We received such an incredible response from day one of opening and started sowing the seeds for an expansion shortly thereafter.  We didn't want to jump into an aggressive growth plan but wanted to allow this idea to incubate and grow naturally.   We have spent the last few years coming up with a process that allows us to create baked-to-order mac & cheese and cook everything from scratch on location.  We have resisted any suggestions of a commissary or off-site cooking.

Approximately a year ago we felt that we were finally ready to open another location in a different neighborhood and apply all of our lessons learnt.   We found a perfect spot in Murray Hill (on 33rd street between 3rd and Lexington Aves), signed the lease and started the design work.   Actual construction started December 2011 and we are lookind at an opening date of Summer 2012.

Currently, we find ourselves short on funds by $100,000.00 - money needed to ensure that our contractor will get paid fully in a timely manner.  We are now looking to our fans and Kickstarter to help raise that final amount needed to open our doors.
