About this project

Botswana is home to some of the most diverse wildlife in the world. It is a developing country with universal healthcare and education, which could serve as a model for the rest of Africa to follow. It also has one of the highest HIV/AIDS rates in the world and risks losing an entire generation of young people.

Coaching for Conservation (C4C) is the primary social development project of the 20 year old Botswana Predator Conservation Program. It is born from the need to have a greater impact with its conservation message. Its goal is to improve people's relationship to wildlife and wild spaces and its mechanism is organized sport. The link between sport, health and conservation are not always immediately obvious but C4C is one of the world's most innovative and successful sport development projects and is tackling health and HIV head on!

Starting in 2008, Ashley Ellis began making a documentary film about the Botswana Predator Conservation Trust, Coaching for Conservation, and the unique region of Northern Botswana. The following promo video is cut from some of that footage.

This year, we are also raising money in order to add basketball to this amazing program, which started as a soccer program primarily.

The funds from your donation will go towards much needed basketball equipment, the volunteer coaches' travel expenses, and finishing funds for the documentary film's completion.
