Update #24: End of year update!
Hello Everyone,
I wanted to give you an update on my film "Sherpa Stew". I returned from shooting in Nepal
nearly a month ago and shot some awesome footage of a Sherpa wedding and the lives of Sherpa's in the villages of Nepal as well as Kathmandu. Now that much of the logging and translation of footage has been completed, in the first few months of 2011 I hope to focus primarily on editing the film. Only one more major story element to shoot in the spring of 2011; the graduation of Kipa Sherpa's daughter from college in Buffalo, New York.
Thanks everyone for making the shoot in Nepal a reality! Have a wonderful holiday!

Update #23: It's Nepal time!
After waiting many months, I will finally be hopping on a plane to Nepal tomorrow night. While there I'll hike four days to Nima Dawa Sherpa's village, where his son will be getting married. This is in the same area where Nima Dawa grew up, and eventually built a school house so Sherpa children could get an education.
I also hope to film Nima Dawa as he returns to trekking, along side his son who is will be working in the trekking industry for the first time.
If you're on facebook, please search for "Sherpa Stew" and become a friend as I will attempt to post progress, and photos while I shoot over the next several weeks.
Thanks everyone for making this possible!

Update #22: Sherpa Stew Update!
Hello Everyone.
It's been a while since I last posted an update. I wanted you to know where some of the money you pledged has gone so far. For the last week a Nepalese translator has translated nearly all of the footage I recently shot in New York City which is allowing me to continue editing.
Nima Dawa Sherpa has recently confirmed plans for his son to be married in mid-November 2010 in Nepal, so I will now be traveling there to shoot the wedding, village life and Nima Dawa's return to the trekking industry.
On my most recent shoot in New York I was able to interview a Sherpa musician/singer named Dendi Sherpa, who has been kind enough to offer the use of much of his traditional music recordings for use in "Sherpa Stew". You can learn more about Dendi here:

For those of you waiting for pledge gifts, I appreciate your patience. The Nepal shoot move from May 2010 to November 2010 has affected the timing of purchasing some of those gifts as they were to be purchased directly in Nepal.
Thanks again everyone for supporting this film!

Update #21: Sherpa Stew back in Production!
After much back and forth organizing with Nima Dawa Sherpa in Nepal, it now looks like the earliest and best time to go will be October. In the meantime, I'm back in New York City shooting updates for a week on Kipa Sherpa, his friends and family.
Update #20: Sherpa Stew- Kickstarter funding in Action!
Hello Everyone,
I hope you are doing well. I wanted to keep you updated on progress of "Sherpa Stew".
Because of your support, I will be able to travel in early June to New York City to continue documenting Kipa Sherpa's story, who will be teaching New York City kids about climbing Mount Everest at the Rubin Museum.
New developments in the story include: Kipa's brother has moved just down the street from him in Jackson Heights, New York and I am looking forward to meeting him.
Also, Jangbu Sherpa, a New York City limo driver has recently been joined by his son a well regarded Nepalese singer. I'll be there to document his New York City premiere concert which could be attended by as many as 400 New York City Sherpa!
Soon, I will be able to book the Nepal trip which should occur in early Fall 2010. Thanks so much to all of you who have made this documentary possible. I will do my best to make a documentary film that you will all be proud to have supported.
Namaste!
