My Comedic!Interactive!Improv-ed-Yet-Sorta-Scripted! theater piece was accepted to the NYC Fringe! ...now I just need the down payment.
ETA: Goal reached! Thank you SO much to everyone who donated, shared the link, or told friends about the project! I am extremely grateful that I hit my goal in less than four days. AND, though I did hit my goal, I would be thrilled to surpass it, with additional money raised going towards Phase 2 of taking "HJAWtNBYAN" to the Fringe: marketing, rehearsal space, tech, and everything else I'm gonna need to get this theatrical extravaganza off the ground. Again, THANK YOU!
BACK STORY: A frustrated aspiring television writer enthralled by the fairytale-esque stories of female writers who've succeeded, I read Mindy Kaling's memoir when it first came out (even got it autographed). In one chapter, she explains how she "was discovered" (my words, not hers) at the NYC Fringe when she wrote, directed, and starred in a piece. This made me deludedly think: "Hey! Maybe I could do that!"
Using my background as a playwright (guys, I have an MFA in this stuff), my foreground as a UCB student (guys, I can kind of do improv now), and my undying love of both Jane Austen and Young Adult fiction (guys, yeah), I created the semi-scripted/mainly-improv-ed interactive theatrical extravaganza that is "Help Jane Austen Write The Next Big Young Adult Novel."
"HJAWtNBYAN" got accepted to the New York Fringe Festival.
While this is AMAZING (for MANY reasons, including: the Fringe is awesome, this is feeding my deluded hopes, I've been living in Los Angeles for the last two years and have been looking for an excuse to book an extended-stay trip back to New York), I need a bit of help funding this theatrical extravaganza. Off the bat, I need to raise $650 for the registration fee.
Don't know what the Fringe is? It's a wonderful theatrical extravaganza where lucky small/independent writers/creators/performers are chosen to put up their pieces in Off-Broadway theaters. Several young-upstarts have gotten their start in the Fringe. You can learn more about it here: http://www.fringenyc.org/
I am EXTREMELY grateful for ANY donation you can manage. Every single dollar counts. Literally. This Kickstarter is just meant to fund the initial registration fee, but SHOULD (big should, I know) it raise more than enough, that money would go towards funding the logistics of the production. Should I raise enough money to actually send me to the Fringe, I will be offering EVEN NEWER, SHOW RELATED GIFTS (tickets, DVDs, mentions in the program)!!!!...but first I need to raise the initial money. Please help!
