Thanks everyone- these are great ideas. I think we've got one now, and will post an update soon to see what everyone thinks of it.
woops typo I mean 'blendar'....
I like 'belndar' made me laugh and has 'ar' in it. Sort of blending real and and artificial worlds.
Matrixcam
@ Griffin: we were thinking about Jumble, Hodgepodge, Etc - as that is part of the "collaging" experience of the App, and then discovered the word Farrago (sounds like a high-end Italian scooter manufacturer!)
@ Ina : There is another AR app which we did not know about called "Mixare" (I think posted to the App store in Dec. - but around for much longer). It does open source POI (gps) AR, so a different product- but just close enough that such a similar name may not be in either App's best interest
Actually, I like MixAR ... why did we skip that one anyway?
I really like the name Farrago
@ Robert- just to clarify, the store will not be ready after lunch today- but should be after lunch on launch day;-)
@ Robert: 1. Yes! 2. Yes! But better yet- you will be able to create your own!
@ Matt: glad you are excited- we can't wait to see what everyone is going to make- and will be posting the date later today
@ R.D: thanks for the info- we recently had a huge spike in traffic and I wonder if it was based on that episode!?
Hello to you all, can't wait to start to play with the app. Just got 2 question
1: will we be able to but AR t-shirts from your website after lunch?
2: Will you have animal face as part of AR model?? (long story: it for an art project)
How is it going guys. When do you think the app will be ready to be released. i can't wait to play with the app and my AR t-shirt.
The Simpsons recently spoofed pixar in there latest episode entitled "Angry dad:the movie".
The spoof on pixars name was "MIXAR" the episode can be viewed on hulu
Or, have a campaign of advertisements, where it's a bunch of different names, with focussing on the AR, stAR glAre fARe rARe. something like that.
maybe something like stARe if you wanted to keep the whole augmented reality thing.
Something with the "holo", like easy ( -jet/-travel) or simply holo. sounds catchy. ....
Bravo!!
@Mixare Team: Thanks for pointing that out! This might require us to change the name :( ... If the Kickstarter community has any suggestions, feel free to post them here.
Nice project! Congratulations for reaching your goal. :-)
You probably were not aware of the existence of an Augmented Reality Engine called MIXARE available in the App Store and in the Android Market since almost one year. Mixare is very different from your project as it displays geographically located POIs in the augmented view and is not using markers.
We fear that it could be confusing for ours and yours users since you chose a name so similar to mixare. What do you think?
I'm so glad you guys were successful! If you ever make an Android app, I'll look you up :)
Way to go! Good luck in the future.
Hey guys. Hope I helped a little bit with the funding.

As a fellow Kickstarter developer, I know how much hardv work has already gone into developing your project, so I wish you the best in reaching your goal!
The first release will be iPhone only, since we are still a small team. The Android port will be quite easy, and should arrive a month or two after.
Why iPhone? Could it be ported to Android or Nokia too?
Hey Dmitriy- can you help clarify your what you mean by "other objects on screen"? Thanks!
Hi, guys!
I have only one question: will MixAR allow me to see others objects on screen?
Welcome to the project, Greg! MixAR could be a great tool to help with staging/planning/visualizing films and animations (both in miniature and to scale) - but until it is released, I'd also recommend looking at Google Sketch-up for your pre-vis stuff. It is more for sketching out 3D spaces, but it has some basic mechanics/physics elements you can look into for your animatronic sketches. It is your best bet for an entry 3D tool for visualizations- especially film pre-vis stuff (look into how "Scenes" work) and it's free! Hope that helps- best of luck with your project.
Great project, guys, just backed it. I'm a student at NYU ITP and I've just been getting into 3D animation recently as part of a long-standing interest in special effects. I wonder if you could recommend any other easy-to-use 3D animation tools. I'm not looking for photorealistic results. At this stage I'm hoping for something that works more like a movie previsualization tool -- to help me sketch out ideas for some animatronic sculptures and animations I'm working on. Thanks!
Awsome Stuff Guys, i have added my Donations & i fully support this Digital AR Software application
"Rio Hilton" :)
**** REWARD UPDATE ************************
As consolation for the reward confusion, and to show our appreciation for the support you've all shown for MixAR thus far - we've decided to upgrade our rewards so that the Lifetime Member Reward WILL now be included as an addition to all rewards above $15! So the Survival Kit, T-Shirt, Beta Test, etc., will each now include a Lifetime Member Reward.
We certainly recommend the Lifetime Member reward as the best "deal" for our backers- as it will be worth at least $40 with the releases we have planned.
***************************************************
BUT, please note- all other rewards remain separate (as they are high-quality, we would not be able generate any money for the current MixAR production). Specifically, the T-Shirt will NOT include the Survival Kit, and the PREVIEW will not include the T-shirt OR Survival Kit.
***************************************************
Thank you for your patience and understanding, and please be assured our skills as developers are far superior to our fundraising-design capabilities ;-)
Wait, so pledging 40 won't get me the survival kit or lifetime member + add ons, and the 25 pledge won't get me updates or add ons either? I was about to pledge, but this all seems a bit confusing.
And thanks for the comments and feedback on Empire ISIS AR. That's the code we're building on top of- so any and all (constructive) comments, critiques and suggestions are always appreciated- as they will aid in our developing a better App for you.
$75 does not include the $40 level.
We're only able to include the release App in tandem with other rewards- otherwise all rewards are separate from one another.
Hope this isn't too confusing. We read beforehand that rewards can be separate, and thought this would be easier to manage- but after launching we found the "or more" listed on the reward amounts is a default Kickstarter thing that we cannot change- and now realize we probably should have tiered things differently because of this.
However, we will be selling our shirts (and survival kits) separately at our upcoming online store-and are pretty confident we'll be able to give store-discounts to our backers should we meet our goal ;-)
Does $75 get me the $40 level too?
Empire app was fantastic. Really thrilled about this. I'm launching a mobile art project I might be able to use your app for. Just trying to decide whether to pledge 75 or less.
The App works fine for me. Cool stuff.
Empire ISIS AR was tested thoroughly and we have had no problems reported from the hundreds of other downloads.
We appreciate your time and feedback, and do understand that bugs can always occur. We would be grateful if you would please take a moment to "report a problem" at the Empire ISIS AR App page, where we will be happy to assist you.
Was the Empire app your first app ever? I downloaded that and it doesn't even work. If you can't get that right what makes you think this project will turn out right? And that code wouldnt have been hard to develop. I suggest you get on iTunes university and search for iOS classes. Standford University offers some great ones and its free.
