A short film involving a funny and mysterious meeting between one awkward couple and a peculiar gentleman.

The Next Step...Are you ready to take it?

When a young couple decides to take the next step, it might be bigger than they realize.  THE NEXT STEP, a short film starring Alycia Delmore (HUMPDAY, THE OFF HOURS), Evan Mosher (EDEN) and Kevin Seal (CATECHISM CATACLYSM, MTV), follows an awkward meeting between one not-quite-functional couple and a peculiar gentleman.

Set to go into production in April, THE NEXT STEP will be shot in Seattle, WA by a group of hard working  and talented individuals.  Many of us make our living as filmmakers. This project, however, is a labor of love.  Written and directed by Mel Eslyn (OUR BODIES ARE MADE OF DUST AND CLAY), with cinematography by Nathan M. Miller (APHIDS), and scored by Vinny Smith (HUMPDAY, YOUR SISTER'S SISTER), our crew will be filled with some phenomenal people for sure!  Please help us make this possible!

Why do we need money?  To afford equipment, feed our crew, and take our film through post-production!  We cannot do this without your suport.  And what will you get in return?  Check the column at the right to find out all the rewards we will bestow upon you... not to mention... love, hugs, kisses and plenty of high-kicks!  BLAM!  POW!  WE'RE MAKING A MOVIE!

CREW:

Mel Eslyn (Writer/Director/Producer) began working on films and music videos in the Midwest in her teens, working her way up through the set hierarchies.  Years later, she relocated to Seattle, continuing to work in independent film.  Having assistant directed a handful of films over the years, Mel soon began directing and producing in the Northwest.  In 2010 Mel co-produced the feature film TREATMENT, which premiered at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival and went on to screen at the 2011 Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF).  It was during SIFF that THE EPIPHANY, a short film produced by Mel, also made its premiere, before continuing on to 2012's Science Fiction Film Festival in Seattle.  Later that year, Mel co-produced Lynn Shelton's feature YOUR SISTER'S SISTER, which premiered at the 2011 Toronto Film Festival (purchased by IFC for theatrical release in June 2012), before screening at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, and finally will be the opening night film at 2012's SIFF.  Mel is a reoccurring writer on the reality TV show HOARDERS, as well as the writer and director of the short film OUR BODIES ARE MADE OF DUST AND CLAY, which is in the final stages of post production.  IMPROVEMENT CLUB, a feature which she is producing, is also in post.  Mel loves making films almost as much as she loves high-kicking to the song HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF.  http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2400555/

Nathan M. Miller (Cinematographer) Based out of Seattle, WA, Nathan has been shooting across the US and abroad, acting as Director of Photography on music videos, commercials and shorts.  His work can be seen online, televised on such shows as A&E's BIOGRAPHY, and at various film festivals.  In 2009, Nathan lensed the short film APHIDS, which was an Official Selection at that year's Indie-Memphis Film Festival.  After a trip to Japan in 2010, Nathan, along with his long time collaborator Matthew Brown, released the short DEAR JAPAN, which quickly became an internet sensation.  In 2011, Nathan acted as the Second Unit Director of Photography on the feature film THE OFF HOURS, an Official Selection of the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, and the short HOWARD FROM OHIO, which screened at the Seattle International Film Festival, winning a Special Jury Prize.  His most recent work can be seen in the music video THE PIANO, directed by Matthew Brown, as well as the short film THE PERFECT HUMAN, directed by SJ Chiro.  http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2943141/

Vinny Smith (Composer) is a sound recordist, designer and composer.  Born and raised in Seattle, he began honing his skills in the basements and garages of psychedelic-grunge-folk-tronics, amongst 4-tracks, circuits and strings.  He has had the pleasure of working on such films as YOUR SISTER'S SITER (score/design), HUMPDAY (score/design), THE OFF HOURS (design) and SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED (recording).  Incorporating production sound, field recordings, found sound, and foley into the final mix, Vinny most enjoys diegetic sound developing into the intrinsic rhythm and/or melody of a scene, and shaping that into a cinematic score.  He is also fascinated by the use of silence.  http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0810272/

OTHERS WHO WILL ROUND OUT OUR TEAM OF CAST/CREW: SJ CHIRO, JEREMY MACKIE, BRYAN CAMPBELL, TANIA KUPCZAK, and more!
