I'm confused about the 24"x36" Circle of Death add-on print. As part of the Kickstarter, it was a $100 add-on. I see in Update #55 that print is now open to anyone, and it is $80. Why is it less if you buy it outside of the Kickstarter? In the update it says "Good to be a Kickstarter backer!" in relation to the print. It doesn't seem that way. What am I missing?

Larry, Take your time, don't rush things just because you had set yourself a release date. Your fans have waited a long time for this, some, like myself, have waited decades. A couple of months or so longer won't hurt us. If it means you can perfect a painting your not 100% happy with yet, then any wait will be worth it to us in the end.

Any News on plans for the "Kickstarter sketchbook" and how those 100+ sketches are coming along?

Personally I'm a bit worried that the current work rate is going to have a negative effect on Larry. I know that he has been doing this forever but including all the work on the new paintings he has had to do probably 1500+ dragon doodles and over 100 detailed sketches.

I fully believe you guys can get the main book and cover print ready for late August-ish do you not think it would be better to aim for an early Fall/Autumn ship date so as not to rush the sketches or personal art as well as so Larry doesn't get burnout? He has still got to do this all over again with his B&W sketchbook and New artwork collection and I for one want to make sure I keep getting Larry's work for many years to come.

I may be wrong and most of this has been done via inserts so as not to have to wait for the production of the physical books but you guys are working damn hard and most Kickstarters tend to slip quite a bit anyway.

Either way I'm glad to be a part of this and am looking forward to this book, whenever it ends up making its way to me :)

Thanks for the update, I would hate to do a U.S. tax return if you have to itemise every purchase yourself (lots must be lost by the I.R.S. just because of people's bad memories).

So a $49 book in the U.S. has $12.35 of its cost built in as shipping cost. If that is added to the $48 added for any international backer that about $60 is built into the pricing structure for international shipments.

This should at least make each E.U./Continental American book a "break-even" on shipping. I understand that Asia and Africa might be a loss per book but hopefully the numbers will not be to high a % of cost to the project.

Any news on the top up plan that was mentioned?

@Industrial Scribe The US does not have a VAT tax. Sales Tax (both city and state) is charged at the time of sale but only applies to the people that live in that state. Since Larry's business is located in KY, the only people that have to be charged State Sales Tax are those that live in KY. If they also happen to live in Leitchfield KY then they have to pay City and State Sales Tax. Even with 2097 backers I would guess that the vast majority of them live in other states or are international. Larry's Sales Tax impact is probably pretty small. Income Tax is a whole other story.
Shipping to Hawaii and Alaska is not much more expensive than shipping to any other state in the US.
As example using my zip code 80013
Shipping to to the continental US Via Priority Mail is 19.70 to AK and HI the rate goes up to $23.95 (estimating the weight at 5# 8 oz.)
However, according to the front page the book will be 9"x12" which means it will fit into a flat rate priority box for $12.35 regardless of which state it goes to, The rate is also a bit higher for standard mail $13.20 vs $16.05 but the media mail rate (which will take longer and can't be tracked) is $4.78 regardless of the US destination.
Overseas costs are a bit more difficult to calculate, but let's use London as an example for the same 5# 8 oz book (again only an estimate, I have no idea what this will end up weighing). It has to go at least via priority mail because its over 4# the standard rate priority rate is: $60.35 and the Flat Rate is $59.95. So potentially the international shipping charge of $48 may not be enough if the final weight of the book is over 4#. If it is over 4# but less than 5# then the priority rate is cheaper at $57.40.

Potentially he could be losing $10 - $11 per book that is leaving the US because of the shipping charges.

I meant the cost of the project to Larry with the American Sales tax to be paid by his business, Like U.K. V.A.T. is it added and must be collected by the business before sale, not paid at year end (I don't know much about U.S. taxes)???

Luckily Books are not Taxed in the U.K. (Other types of Kickstarters have killer tax bills for me) so as long as they are shipped/labelled as books (which they are) in the U.K. the tax is not an issue for me. Again I have no idea about mainland Europe.

@True Believer: "we" Europeans might "escape" the American VAT (what is that? 8% 10% 15%?), but for Belgium for example, I'll incurr 21% VAT once the parcel enters the country (+ import duties, etc). So instead of a saving, buying stuff from the USA is actually quite expensive for us!

I'd say free postage to Hawaii/Alaska would cost the project more than $48 paid extra to ship to Europe.
Doesn't international sales also not attract American sales tax so there is a saving there.
