Update #6: Another Story of Sustainability
Hot off the editing computer, here’s a brand new trailer for SOURLANDS, my next film:
SOURLANDS is the story of a fight – the fight for sustainability on Earth, viewed from a green spot between New York City and Philadelphia. If you enjoy the trailer, I hope you’ll send it on to friends, family, and colleagues. (And maybe even post it on your Facebook page.)
The film is now in “post-production.” That means we’re adding narration, music, graphics, color correction, a sound mix, and everything else needed to get it ready for film festivals, broadcast, and DVD. If you click on the link above, you’ll see we’ve returned to Kickstarter to raise funding for post-production. Our goal is to raise $9,500 over the next two months. Just as importantly, this new campaign will help drum up publicity for the coming release.
Please consider pre-ordering a DVD and other rewards through Kickstarter. (And thank you if you already have.) It will help us get to the finish line.
Happy Holidays everybody.
Sincerely,
Jared Flesher

Update #5: The Farmer and the Horse and Distrify
Dear Friends,
The Farmer and the Horse has been out for a year now, and marketing efforts are still going strong. We're still selling DVDs every week (online and through our two distributors, Chelsea Green Publishing and Passion River Films), and film festivals and educational organizations are still buying public screening licenses.
It's been an exciting year, and I want to thank you again for helping make the documentary a reality through your early support on Kickstarter.
As an independent filmmaker, I'm continually reevaluating my options for getting the film out to its audience. A brand new site called Distrify is onto something that I think sounds very intriguing. Basically, they make it possible for everyone who helps spread the word about The Farmer and the Horse (by reposting the video trailer on your Facebook page, twitter account, or website) to earn a few dollars from DVD sales.
And best of all, it seems really easy for anyone to do. If you're interested, check it out now at thefarmerandthehorse.com. Just click "share" in the black Distrify box that comes up at the top of the page.
Sincerely yours,
Jared
Update #4: The Farmer and the Horse Premiere
This was a big week for The Farmer and the Horse. I finished the final tweaks on the film on Wednesday and then hand delivered the master copy to Oasis Disc Manufacturing on Thursday. I’ll have my DVDs back in a few weeks, and plan to have them mailed out to everyone by the first week of August.
Just as exciting, the public premiere of The Farmer and the Horse is drawing near! The film will screen for the first time on Friday, August 6 at Howell Living History Farm at 9 p.m. We’ll be showing it on a huge screen under the stars.
Go here for all the details:

I hope to see you there! (And please spread the word.)
Cheers,
Jared
Update #3: Upcoming Events
A ten-minute preview of The Farmer and the Horse is screening in New York City this coming Monday night (along with previews of 5 other environmental documentaries that are in the production pipeline.) A panel discussion will follow. If you’re going to be in the city and want to check it out, here are all the details:

I also wanted to pass along word that The Pfeiffer Center in Chestnut Ridge, New York is hosting a draft horse workshop on June 5, “The Role of the Horse in the Farm Organism.” I haven’t been to The Pfeiffer Center myself but I’ve heard great things about it. Here are some more details for anyone interested in the workshop:
Update #2: The Farmer and the Horse on Grist
Grist usually has good headlines and subheads. For my story on The Farmer and the Horse they used "Good Naybors."

Update #1: Hungry Filmmakers
First, some news to share:
A 10-minute preview of The Farmer and the Horse will be screened in New York City on May 24th, as part of a film series called Hungry Filmmakers. The location is Anthology Film Archives in the East Village (corner of 2nd Ave & 2nd Street.)
Short clips of other food and farming related films will be screened as well, followed by a panel discussion and a reception. I’ll be bringing a few young Jersey farmers with me, to balance out the city crowd… Doors open at 6:30 p.m., the films start at 7, and the panel discussion starts at 8.
I’ll post more details as they become available -- tickets cost $15 the last time they did this. Here’s the website where more information will be available, although it’s not updated yet:

And second, thank you! In the first three weeks of the Kickstarter campaign, we’ve reached more than 50% of our $2000 goal. (There are six weeks left to raise the rest.) The most helpful thing you can do now is keep spreading the word and forwarding on the link!
Cheers,
Jared Flesher, Director
