Update #16: Coloring books are ready!

Posted on October 26, 2011

Hi friends!

What a long, crazy adventure this coloring book project has been, and today I have two very exciting announcements.

The first is that the finished coloring books are available for sale in the Katie Blair Designs shop now, so if you didn't get one as a reward (or you just want another one), you can buy one now. Plus, if you love this project, help me spread the word -- tweet, facebook or blog about the books, or pin them on your Pinterest page. Thanks! By the way, there are also Photosynthesis cards and notebooks in the shop, too.

Second, if you are getting a book as your pledge reward, I will have them all in the mail by Monday (even the custom-printed ones). Hooray! That means it should be a VERY short time before they arrive and you get to love these books as much as I do.

Thank you so much for your support throughout this whole project. I couldn't have done it without you!

Update #14: Time to get binding

Posted on September 30, 2011

Hey everyone,

This week I finished hand-printing the 24 pages of the coloring books -- hooray! This is a big milestone in creating these coloring books, but by no means does it mean they're almost done. Now, it's onto the binding process, where I'll be sewing, gluing and covering 150 books (not to mention printing the covers).

Still, I'm super excited to have gotten so far in this process, and I'm so proud of how the pages look. You can see the finished pages folded into the three sections that will make up the book block above.

This week I also put together a sample book to confirm that all my measurements are correct before I start cutting all the supplies for the book covers. Here's a peek at that sample:

Obviously, the cover isn't printed (and the pages are just misprints to stand in for the real thing), but it gives you a little sense of what the finished product will look like. Based on the sample, I've made a couple little tweaks to my measurements, and now I'm ready to head on to the binding phase.

Thanks again for your support!

Update #13: Printing is now two-thirds finished!

Posted on September 7, 2011

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to pop in to give you a little glimpse at the progress of the coloring books. I now have two-thirds of the pages printed and folded, to create the first two sections of each book. You can see the stacks of the book sections in the photo below. I still have a third of the pages to print (not to mention creating the covers and actually binding the books), but they're coming along quite nicely!

By the way, I also wanted to let any of you who might live in the Chicago area know that I'll be at the Renegade Craft Fair, booth 101, this weekend. I'd love it if you'd stop by and say hi.

It's good to see a picture of you. You are dressed for hot weather. We got together at Henry Cowell Sunday and missed you guys. My garden has some surprises. What I thought I planted, butternut, turned out to be a kabushi. It is a delicacy in Mexico and cooked as dessert. Lupy is supposed to give me a recipe. Slso my backfence neighbors have squash growing over the fence that are HUGE, and I don't know what they are.

Update #12: The illustrations are finished!

Posted on August 19, 2011

Phew! After hours of work, I've finally finished the floral illustrations for the coloring book. You can check out a preview of all of them in the photo below. Over the next few days I'll do a few final touch-ups to each of them to get them ready for burning screens, and then I'll be all set to start printing. I hope you're as excited as I am!
